HELP Overclocking Core 2 Duo E8400

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

So is it still possible you guys can give me a thread or a tutorial anyway for the core 2 duo? I mean its just im experimenting on it and want to be confident enough so that I can do it without hesitation on my i5.

This should do it for you.

PS: When you want to respond to someone, use the "Quote" button in the lower right of their post so that they know you replied. ;)

Can I get some help, tutorial, and suggestion to overclocking? Specifically my old Core 2 Duo E8400.

Im kind of new to overclocking and wanted to do it first on this old chip so that I could do it after wards on my i5 3570k.

I was aiming maybe at 4.0Ghz with an after market heat sink. If you can get me video tutorials or thread tutorials that would be much appreciated.

Overclocking on 775 CPUs is different with 1156/1155/1150 CPUs.

On the old 775s, you need to dial up the FSB. This in turn overclocks your CPU, ram and the FSB itself.

On the newer CPUs, you generally only need to turn up the multiplier (on K-series unlocked CPUs) to overclock. You may also use the BLK to overclock which also affects your ram.

Honestly, overclocking on K-SKUs now is so much easier than 775 and the early Core ix chips. Just up the multiplier and you're golden (after a stress test with AIDA64, of course).

It's a great overclocking guide, written by @harrynowl. Used it when overclocking my Q8200.
