Gaming PC

Dallas1117

I am kind of new to building PCs but it is something I always wanted to do.  I am trying to build a beast PC without killing myself in money to build one. I want to use my PC for gaming and YouTube recording. I want to hit about 2k resolution while maintaining 60fps+ while recording with max settings on games.

Budget: $800-$2000

I am willing to spend the money if necessary and I don't wanna burn out my PC in a year because of being cheap.

Please help me because I am a noob when it comes to parts.

A Build would be highly appreciated.

Chose a GPU and build around it....maybe a 970/980 or a 290X, Intel quad core, 8GB RAM, SSD, quality PSU....

Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Corsair H105, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite, Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3600MHz, EVGA RTX 3070Ti FTW3, Samsung 850 Pro / WD SN850 / OCZ Trion 150

For 1440, I would recommend a 980 or 2x 970. I personally would go with 2x 970, it outperforms the 980 for only about $150 more. A single 970 would struggle to keep your FPS at a steady 60 fps.

You would also need to purchase an SLI bridge to connect the two GPUs together for the 2x 970 option.

This looks actually pretty nice and thanks for labeling it. Would I be able to maintain above 60fps while recording while keeping at max settings?

Use pcpartpicker....its easy and you can see the watts needed for the build and what parts are compatible. Do you need OS, monitor, keyboard/mouse also?

I wanna get the core PC done first. Then I will just go out and buy that stuff after.

Definatly, you are getting the world's fastest graphics card ;)

The CPU will be able to keep up with the 980 too! :D

Have fun recording! :D (Even my i5 4440 and 290x can handle recording while gaming :P

SLI 970's will perform better than a Single 980

But the ability of expansion will be compromised. I would still go for a single 980 as apposed to dual 970s due to potential SLI issues too.

For strictly gaming purposes, the 980 isn't very price efficient. Most modern games are scaled for SLI (dual graphics) on release now so having more than one graphic card isn't a problem. The main reason why I chose two graphic cards is that it's a better option rather than settling for a single 980. For an extra $150, you get 2x 970 that out performs the single 980 card. Comparing the 970 to the 980, the 970 is only weaker by like less than 20%.

Well, that's the thing. I used to get the most expensive single card I can afford cause SLI sucked in the past, but now all modern games are optimized for SLI. The same argument still holds for me though, 980 isn't worth it for straight up gaming. You don't need all that CUDA cores and that slightly faster clock speed. He's gaming on a 2k resolution screen, 2x 970 is more than capable of handling that without a problem.

I personally own a 980, but I do a lot of massive 3D CAD work so I can justify that premium for the 980. I just don't think it's worth grabbing a 980 if you're only gaming, you won't get that much out of it compared to a 970 and you're paying almost twice the cost.

Hmmm I am researching this build atm and so far it looks really good. I believe this is the one I am going to use as I already did prior research on some of the parts mentioned. Is it really loud and does it keep the core temperature down? I don't wanna melt my motherboard in a year ;3 I'm pretty heavy on my gaming.

The new 900 series card are very power efficient, you won't have to worry about the heat. The heat output is way less substantial than previous cards.

Eventually I want to expand beyond just gaming. At this moment, I am putting the preferences towards gaming.

I wanna thank you all for the quick responses and I am glad I signed up for this website because I wasn't getting much help anywhere else. I am going to use the build mentioned above with some minor tweaks of my own.

Ultimately, it's your decision. I just wanted to throw my opinion out there about the 970 vs the 980 just so you are aware of it. It's always nice to have multiple opinions when you're gathering information.  :)

Hmm what @OhhTee said is true. Take time to consider whether you want a single 980 or dual 970 :)

Alright I have decided to go with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jCQqVn

I just wanna make sure this is everything I need to build a functioning computer.

I know I will need a monitor, keyboard, mouse and OS but besides that I wanna make sure I got everything covered to build the core unit.

#nub

Do I need to add anything else like a sound card, case fans, etc...

Also someone suggested to me to change the cooler to a water cooler. Is that necessary or do I really need to?
