Hello Everyone,

Good day. I just want to ask if i'm going to get a compatibility issue with this upgrade : (I'm open to suggestions)

CPU : Intel Haswell 4770k (3.5Ghz)

RAM : Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600Mhz (Quad Channel)

GPU : Nvidia GTX 780

PSU : Seasonic 750w or any 800w Gold PSU

UPS : FPS 1500va

MoBo : Asus Maximus VI Gene-Z

HDD : WDC Black 1Tb + WDC Green 3Tb

There we go.

My current PC is :

CPU : AMD 1090T 3.2Ghz

RAM : OCZ Platinum 4Gb 1333Mhz (Dual Channel)

GPU : Sapphire 7850 2GB OC Edition

PSU : HEC Cougar 700w Bronze 80+

UPS : Intex 1500va

MoBo : Asus M4A89GTD Pro / Usb 3.0

HDD : WDC Black 1Tb

I bought the Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600Mhz (Quad Channel) last July 2011 and wasn't able to use it on my AMD Computer, I made a mistake by not checking the compatibility... :(

That's it guys, let me know if i'm going to get a compatibility issue on my intel-upgrade-plan.

Thank you for reading.

If you don't plan on going SLI there is absolutely no reason whatsoever in going with an 800W PSU. My 3770K @ 4.5 + GTX 780 pull about 350W from the wall. A 500W PSU will be more than sufficient. If you want to go SLI I'd go with a Seasonic 750W/ Corsair AX760

Hmm. I've been thinking about that too. Actually, I've seen some almost similar setup with only 500w PSU.

Thanks for the info though.

NP, don't forget to hit dat like button. As for the rest of your system...looks good. Kinda hard to go wrong with Asus + Corsair. If you want to save a little on the motherboard it might be worth getting a Z87 TUF board instead of the ROG. In terms of overclocking ablity they are identical....so in the end it all comes down to

1) the feature set

2) looks :D

you could reuse your old psu and get an ssd.

But, that's 3 years old now.

Hmm. I might consider that since ROG Maximus VI Gene-Z is still not yet available. :)

Also, I'm looking for a board that can run / handle my quad-channel 16Gb RAM without OCing my CPU.

Actually, so we can be more helpful, could you tell us what you do primarily?

Is it for gaming, video editing, workstation use? Do you care about heat, power consumption, silence?

60% Video Editing / Rendering and 40% Gaming.

Do you think the Maximus VI Gene-Z can handle my quad channel 16Gb 1600Mhz without OCing CPU or anything?

As far as I know Z87 is dual channel only but it should accept that memory just fine. I would highly recommend getting a 3930K/Socket 2011 Quad Channel platform with your needs. I recommend this because you do a lot more video editing than gaming and you get 2 extra cores to do the job. The performance is almost the same and if you consider overclocking, I feel the 3930K would suite your needs better. However, if you want fresh architecture then you can go Haswell without worrying about memory compatibility issues.

I hope the Gene-Z and 4770k can handle my quad channel 16Gb 1600Mhz RAM without OCing much, otherwise I will have to get a new dual channel ram.

Thanks for the info.

Also, I have an additional question.

Since it is quad channel 16Gb, can I just use two-stick of it? (8Gb)

Will it work? Is it advisable?

can you post memory SKU

I don't know exactly, but here's my RAM - http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz16gx3m4a1600c9b.html

I bought it last July 2011 and still not using it because of compatibility issue with my current PC.

And here's my current PC spec again :

CPU : AMD 1090T 3.2Ghz

RAM : OCZ Platinum 4Gb 1333Mhz (Dual Channel)

GPU : Sapphire 7850 2GB OC Edition

PSU : HEC Cougar 700w Bronze 80+

UPS : Intex 1500va

MoBo : Asus M4A89GTD Pro / Usb 3.0

HDD : WDC Black 1Tb

Some people said it is because of my current board, some said I just need to OC my CPU a little bit more.

What I am experiencing is, i'm getting BSOD everytime i'm using the 16Gb. :(

oh its dual/quad channel so thats not a problem with the new system. Also, thats intel XMP ram i think? so you want to manually supply 1.65V with the proper timings mentioned on that page (for your current system). Hope this helps

Yes it is XMP. I've already tweaked the RAM settings on my MoBo bios but i'm still getting BSOD that's why I decided to use my old 4Gb ram and keep my 16Gb for future upgrade.

Anyways, thanks for the info, I just hope everything will be fine with my intel-upgrade-plan.
