Posted December 19, 2014 I have been playing planetside 2 for a while and trying to get the best performance out of my CPU, ps2 is very punishing for it. After some time trying to figure out how to get the most out of it. I unparked the cpu cores, disable the cool and quiet and turbo boost features from the bios and its not OC All the time after playing 10+ minutes, the CPU goes from 2.77 to 800 mhz. I already The only way i can get again 2.77 is restarting the computer but always after 10 minutes the CPU is at 800 mhz when gaming. Currently running win 8.1 64 bits MSI 7641 880GMS -e35 AMD Phenom x6 1055T Sapphire r9 270 dual x antec 450w continous power Thanks in advance
 Posted December 19, 2014 Author Did you install all the drivers that are for your motherboard? Off course, latest bios update 10.3 Looks like a heating issue (throttling) or you have power saving features enabled. I already changed the profile from the standard to high performance and tweaked to get the most out of it
 Posted December 19, 2014 Off course, latest bios update 10.3 Latest bios isn't as important as the actual drivers for everything on your motherboard. It should be on your motherboard manufactures website. Chipset drivers, Audio drivers, power management drivers etc.
 Posted December 19, 2014 Thank god your motherboard hasn't blown. You have a VERY high power CPU (125W at stock clocks) and mediocre VRMs on the motherboard with no heatsink at all. If your motherboard didn't have OCP, it would have blown already. Bottom line: your motherboard can't supply enough power to your CPU without it overheating itself. Replace the motherboard or you're stuck like this. By overheating, I don't mean overheating the CPU. I mean the VRMs on the motherboard are overheating. Looks like thermal throttling.

Posted December 19, 2014 Actually i will have to get a new MOBO and processor , for investing a little bit more. Seems weird that a MOBO designed for this processor can't take the load It's not designed for that processor. They have the same socket, but that's all. It's designed for a CPU that doesn't draw as much power. This is actually a common problem with current day 8-core FX CPUs, which have the same TDP as your CPU. People try to put them into cheap 760 or even most 970 chipset AM3+ mobos and except for a tiny few (like the Gigabyte GA970A-UD3P), none can handle the power demands of an 8-core FX CPU. You have to spring for the 990FX chipset boards that have 8+2 VRMs with heatsinks before you can reliably power an FX-8350 (again, except for the UD3P, which has the same VRM design as a 990FX MoBo). Should i downclock the CPU a little bit? it will help?, using 6 cores at 2.3 is much better than
 Posted December 19, 2014 Can you completely turn cores off in your bios? I'm not familiar with your board. Planetside favors single-threaded performance, so completely stopping some cores from being used would be preferential to downclocking. Try limiting the CPU to just 4 cores and go from there. This would be done in the BIOS of your motherboard if it supports it.

Posted December 19, 2014 yes Then make sure it isn't thermal throttling due to overheating. The stock cooler isn't really enough to cool the 6-core Phenoms under load.
