Hey, this is my first time building a PC, which I want to use for gaming. I plan on having a budget of 1100 USD or less.

The games I plan on using are things like TF2, BF4, Garry's Mod (a lot of screwing around with that), Need for Speed, and other things I can get my hands on.

I don't need to get extra monitors, because I already have two I plan on using in my house.

For peripherals, I have a stupid Bluetooth office keyboard and mouse. I might plan on getting a cheap wired keyboard.

The reason I am upgrading is because I am tired of this laptop that can't run games for jack. Link here for those who are interested.

Anyway, I have gathered a build on PartPicker, but I was hoping for some feedback before I continued.

Thanks,

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

@Shadskular, if you are willing to pay a tiny bit more, you can get Corsair Vengeance 2x4 GB DDR3-1866 which I believe is better than DDR3-1600 memory. Not much more.

As for the motherboard... I'm not sure what to say... In my opinion, it's poop. It's not future proof as it doesn't have CrossFire support or SLI support meaning if you were to gain more money in the future and wanted to expand, you couldn't really. You should probably go with a different one like the MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard or like @Speedyv suggested, the Asus Z97 but I haven't heard too much about that and I'm not sure if it's amazing like other mobos are...

When it comes to the GPU, I think we discussed and settled that the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Windforce is better than the Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X. I'm pretty sure it just is from statistics.

For the case... The 450D is a.. pretty good choice though it's a tiny bit expensive for a mid tower as you can get full towers for around the same price, maybe 20 USD more.

Also, for HDD, the Seagate Barracuda 2TB is around $79 which is more expensive than your (planned) WD Blue drive but, for double the storage and double the cache... I'd think is a better deal (link below).

Good luck!
