Racing Wheels, Playstations and PC (Sorry XBox...)
Shadskular replied to Shadskular's topic in Peripherals
Off topic: Yeah, I'm also not allowed to drive yet, but I like all styles of cars. Still, I tend to lean towards JDM as one of my favorites. However, I really want own a Skyline R34 alongside a RestoModded '69 Mustang at some point in my life, just to show that JDM can exist with Muscle. On Topic: I have checked many of these, and I guess I will look at used ones Still, I really want to thank you guys so much for your help and support! -
Hello Forum! As you can probably tell by my profile picture, I am very much into cars, feeding my interest in many different racing games, like Gran Turismo 5, Project Cars, etc. Recently I have decided that it is time for me to treat myself to a proper racing wheel, and to stop torturing myself with DIGITAL input of throttle and steering with a bloody keyboard and joystick... So, I hope you guys have some recommendations for some possibilities, ranging anywhere up to 150 USD. Maybe a bit on the restricted side, but something that I CAN'T do without is a physical shifter and clutch. The reason this is is because I play Gran Turismo 5 (PS3), many NFS (Need for Speed) games (PS3 and PS4), DiRT (PC mostly), and soon Project Cars (Probably PC). So, if anyone has any recommendations for a wheel set that can work with PS3, (hopefully) PS4, and PC, you guys will be more awesome than you already are! Thanks, Shadskular Edit: The price can go up to 200 USD.

Thanks for your advice guys! One more thing, I also checked out the MSI PX60 series. What do you think of that?

Hello Forum! Recently I have been looking for a new laptop for me to take back and forth from school, as I am having major issues with my current one . My price range is around 1000 USD, and I am hoping for something that is fairly portable (I can tolerate up to about 4.5 lbs/2.1 kg), no need for an optical drive. A discrete graphics card can also help, (I plan on disabling it when I don't need it for better battery if needed) and a decent i5 or i7 CPU for the occasional game. (TF2, Garry's Mod, numerous racing games [therefore the good CPU for the physics], no super heavy FPS games). For storage, I am fine with at least 500 GB of mechanical storage, though and SSD or SSHD will be nice. I want to stay in the 13-16 inch range for physical size, and 1080p non-touch or higher is good for the display. So far, I have taken a look at the Lenovo Y50 and Y40, a modestly upgraded Dell XPS 13 and a Vostro 5840, . An added bonus would be decent build quality and rigidity, as the biggest in my past PC was caused because of that. With that, do you guys have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions for a laptop! Thanks, Shadskular Also I need a Windows PC. Sorry Apple.

Hello Forum! I have come back again in my time of need. As the title says, I have two queries, with both going hand in hand. The first involves the Ethernet ports in my flat, and the second is deciding on an access point (or two) that I can use to improve connectivity in my flat. (It's about 3,800 sq. feet and is somewhat long. Only one floor.) Now the first problem is trying to get the Ethernet ports to work in the first place. In my house there is a box that patches through to all the ports in the house. I have ZERO idea on how to accomplish this, but I only need to patch 2 or 3 ports. It looks like this: Image (Sorry I couldn't embed the image) Any ideas on how to wire them? I have Googled this more times than I can count, and none of them were either clear or very helpful. The second is simpler. I am looking for an access point or two to put in my house. I am hoping they will have POE for minimal cables and to spend around 100-150 USD, either for one AC or split (preferably) between two. I am also hoping for them to have 5/2.4 GHz bandwidth using up to the 802.11ac standard. (I can do without it if necessary.) The things my family and I use the network for is for a lot of streaming (from the net and locally), heavy internet usage, and a bit of online gaming. We have had some really choppy access, probably because of the E1200 router and the repeater.... Quite a lot of information, but any suggestions for either of the topics will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Shadskular

Hello Forum! I need a new laptop, and I am a bit unsure of what I should get. I need to get one for around 1000 USD max, and I am going to use it mainly for school and some medium-light gaming. I am hoping for something that is not overly heavy, has a decent battery life (at least 4-5 hours while using the internet or light programs), and has decent storage space (at least 256 GB of space. I am not really concerned on what type of drive it is.), and packs an OK punch in performance. I have checked out the Dell XPS 13 and the Lenovo Y50, and I would gravitate towards something that is closer to the XPS. I would love for any advice you guys have Thanks, Shadskular

@CameronDSetty, I am mostly doing this for my friend, who already has a powerful rig at home. I have seen some laptops that have this, but they are all out of our price range. I was hoping to find someone who has maybe seen something like what we need.

Hello Forum! My friend and I are searching for a laptop. The main feature that we want is an RGB keyboard. We are not as concerned with the processor as much, but we don't want the weight to be over 2 kg, max 2.5. We also have a pretty tight budget, with it being at around 800-850 USD. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Shadskular

Processor PCIe Lane Support
Shadskular replied to Shadskular's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Thanks for all the replies! One more question though... I was a a friends place who has a custom PC, and he plugged his monitor straight into the MOBO. When we plugged it into his GPU (an Asus Strix card, I don't know the exact model) it would display with a black gap between the actual edge of the screen and the part that was displaying. This happened even with the drivers installed. Does this happen all the time? Thanks, Shadskular -
Processor PCIe Lane Support

Thanks! This really helped me out a lot! Thanks, Shadskular -
My friend and I were planning on upgrading to an i5-4690K. On the spec sheet, it says it only has 16 PCIe lanes. Since a single GPU uses a 16x slot, (We are planning on using a G1 GTX 970) will this mean it won't be able to handle two or more in SLI? Any CPU recommendations would be very much appreciated as well. Thanks, Shadskular
