Which GPU for this itx build?

Go to solution Solved by mapegl,

I am not 100% sure, but I think the 250D and the 380t have a very similar layout. I have that 290mm length restriction as well, but I do have the 290 Tri-X in my case. ;-) I GUESS you would be able to fit that thing as well.

What I like about the 290 is the price/performance. IMHO it beats the 970 in that aspect, BUT what really is very nice about the 970 is the total amount of heat dumped in your system.

I do get along with my 290 in that very small case, BUT my brothers 290 Tri-x runs much cooler in his rig (HAF-XB). Mine goes up to 80, his usually only to 72°C.

No matter what 290 you get, the amount of heat is the same. The only difference is how fast the heatsink can get rid of it and after that your case.

The 970 will dump much less heat into your system overall, therefore leaving your total system temperature lower and not leaving the GPU in its own hot air as much.

Also a thing to consider in a small case is that if you get a big card, you basically create two seperate chambers and make airflow more difficult to pass over or around the card, therefore leading to higher temps as well. This is kinda important with your case as well, as you probably will have the GPU take in air from the left (duh) and exhaust out the right and back.

Hi there

Looking to build this itx build however I can't decide on my GPU.

Initially I was certain on getting a sapphire r9 290 tri-x but the card is too long for this case! Any suggestions?

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/37C2TW

The options I came up with included:

Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II £222///

MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card £273///

MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card £228///

PowerColor Radeon R9 290 4GB PCS+ Video Card £200///

Zotac GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card £256///

The case has a length limit of 290mm

Dont really want to be spending more than £280

Thank you for your help!

Doug

Most definitely not an R9 290. Too much heat for ITX

I would go with the MSI TF V or the Gigabyte ITX GTX 970

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

That card is 326CM according to amazon making it too long

It's 241.3mm long. Not sure where Amazon got its numbers from there.

I literally just looked it up because I remember 2 previous incidents like this where amazon was wrong. Holy shit they're not even close O_o

Cheers guys!

I reckon its the dimensions of the packaging Amazon have posted. The evga sounds like a good idea to me, I'll just have to postpone purchasing the all in one CPU water cooler until I get sufficient money in the future. I can just use the stock fan and over clock further down the line.

I think I'd rather a card designed for atx, specially considering the case takes full sized power supplies. Just feel like performance is sometimes comprimised with itx gpu's. I might be wrong.

I just found this picture on Google images so I guess it does fit!? Haha http://cdn.eteknix.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/DSC_7451.jpg

Look at my gallery if you want to see how it fits in the 250d. Though I guess it is easier in the 380t because of the setup of the side panels.
