Well i have the 6300 right now and since i decided to recently upgrade to a 4790k and wasn't happy about also having to grab a new mobo too. So if you think you might ever find your self in a position like that i may actually recommend an i3 instead as they preform very close anyway.

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

It performs like poop is my guess. You're better off with an i5 4460 on a $60 ASRock B85 Anniversary board. Much better off. Even taking a slightly worse GPU, still better off.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.

It doesn't "perform like poop" i just do a lot of video editing and rendering and enjoy having fast high end items. Also i play games a lot and when looking at the 4690k (4790k performance the same in gaming as the i5) vs the 6300 there was usually around 10-20fps increase so that is nice to have. But honestly the 6300 is a great cpu for the money. But if you plan on upgrading with in a reasonable amount of time then i would recommend you just save money for longer and get what you really want rather than upgrading to it as it will cost you more money in the long run.
