Hi guys, I don't know much about SSD's or what I should be looking for in terms of specs. I'm looking a good 240-256GB SSD for my OS and programs that benefit from the higher speeds.

I'm deciding between the four below, which one gives the best performance and reliability.

1. Kingston HyperX Fury SSD 240GB - 104,80 EUR

2. Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB - 95,80 EUR

3. Crucial MX100 256GB - 97,90 EUR

4. Samsung 840 EVO 250GB - 117,80 EUR

They all fit my max. budget of 120 EUR but I'd rather go with the <$100 ones if there is no real benefit from paying more for the 840 EVO.

Right now I'm just looking to shave off costs for my build.

Thanks for your help! -Shaqo-

MX100.

Not much more than the v300 while offering more capacity and higher performance.

Definitely the Crucial MX100; it's the cheapest out of those and it performs just as good if not better than the others in consistent reads, a little bit slower writes, but it has really fast random read/write.

Don't even consider the V300, it has absolute garbage reads/writes (~170/~80) and the reliability is apparently horrible. Do NOT buy it.

Forget the V300, after the debacle surrounding that drive no one should buy it just out of protest for malpractice. Go for the MX100, it's the best cheap SSD you can buy for storage per GB, it uses very high quality NAND flash and has good speeds to boot.

Looks like it's going to be the MX100. :)

If I was willing to spend the extra for the 840 EVO, is it worth or should I just stick with the MX100.  It seems to score better in these benchmarks. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8066/crucial-mx100-256gb-512gb-review/6

It's not worth it, the 840 evo can turbo write for a short while, but then it cuts out and the MX100 is faster from then on. Plus they're benchmarks, so not a realistic simulation of what would likely happen.

Stick with the MX100. There isn't that much of a difference.

Yeah that's become quite clear now. :P

One question tho, aren't those the SSD's LTT is using in the new whole room watercooling rigs?

Nope, they are different. It's HyperX 3K!

I think they might be, but then again kingston gave the drives to them, so you're not going to look a gift horse in the mouth are you, even if it's old, permanently injured and won't race again.

LOL, the question could be asked why one would gift such a horse in the first place. Maybe to outsource the costs of having it euthanized? :P

Ya, I was sure I heard Linus thank Kingston for the 'V300's' they sent along with all the RAM.
