Windows 8.1 question

Hey Linus community,

I am receiving my pc tomorrow and am wanting to install windows 8.1 from a usb. If I download windows off there website (student copy) can I put it on a usb to install it on my new computer (cause I don't have and optical drive)

Yes assuming that you can get a full version of Windows 8.1 (as opposed to an upgrade) it can be done. Basically you should be able to download the ISO file for Windows 8.1 from your schools site then follow the instructions in this link to install it to a USB drive.
