Hey guys

Right now I've got a logitech g19 keyboard, but I'll buy a mechanical one for christmas. I tend to a corsair k70 with red switches, but I don't really know how different the reds, browns and my current ones are. unfortunately I didn't find any information about my g19 keys. If you know something about them and how they differentiate from the reds/browns please tell me. also other recommendations are appreciated.

And sorry for my english, I'm swiss  :)

Will you use just for gaming? Or game most of the time? If yes, reds.

Will you use it for typing and gaming? If yes, browns.

Will you use it just for typing? If yes, blues.

Pretty much it, my experience with Cherry MX Reds are quite unsatisfying, and by looking at my post count you can see why.

Edit:

Here's a site that sums up the different Cherry MX switches.

Although it's always good to try them before you make a purchase, if you're not on Reddit every waking minute (I recommend Blues if so), or smoking pure caffeine because you've been playing CS:GO for the past 72 hours (go for Reds if this is you, it'd match the colour of your eyes), than I'd say that Browns are the best bet.

I've tested them in a store (all on Corsair keyboards). I personally tend towards browns because while I like the reds, they're way too soft. I don't have a super heavy press but I found the reds to be like pressing buttons that were floating where as I liked the browns a lot more as they tended to feel like they actually exist.

Reds 'may' be better for gaming, but browns are more comfortable. You should try test these out in a store or buy a Cherry MX keyswitch checker that has 1 MX Red, 1 MX Blue and 1 MX Brown to compare the 3 to find one you like, they're like $10 on amazon.

There are some general feels that people have for keys, like stated above, but it is very personal.

I've seen plenty of people prefer Reds for typing for how light they feel, and they like the fact your hands "flow" across the board because of how light they are.

I've seen other people not like Reds for gaming as they prefer the slight amount of feedback so you can double tap more accurately.

What I'm trying to say is that personal feelings of other people won't help you.

See if you can try them in a hardware store / purchase a key switch tester / Hell I just bought an individual key of eBay when I wanted to try clears before I bought.

Sadly I live in switzerland where it's almost impossible to test ou things before you buy them...  :(

You can check out my thread here that goes over all the different switch types - Cherry switches included. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/255051-what-key-switch-should-i-get-look-here/

Should give you a general idea about whether reds or browns are for you.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Its a very personal thing, I would recommend trying them, either at a shop or by buying one of the tester kits.

From reading around I thought browns/whites would be the best suited to me but after trying them I find the little bit of feedback makes them feel janky to me, like there's a bit of broken plastic floating around inside them so now I favour red/blacks. Blue/greens sound way to annoying for my tastes regardless of how good they feel. Also don't forget to try with/without O-rings.

Overall reds are my favourite but if you like something a bit heavier with the same smooth feel blacks are an option. Again its an entirely personal thing, no one else can tell you what's best for you. I'm also really interested in trying the optical switches (I forget the brand) and the Omron G-roamers because both sound nicer than any of the others to me but who knows until I can get my hands on some.
