Go to solution Solved by jnmbhj,

Fixed the issue. The CPU was not placed in the socket properly. Easy fix. Learned a lesson. Don't build computers at 2 in the morning

So today I decided to move everything from my haf 912 to try new phantom 410. It was working before the transfer without any issues. I have installed everything but I have an issue. The computer would not post.

It gives me a little red light on my motherboard it says CPU led. I have tried to disconnect the motherboard power and the 8 pin and reconnecting it. I have tried clearing CMOS. I tried to take out the ram. None of those seemed to work.

Could you maybe post a picture of the setup so we can see if all the cables are in the correct places? Are you using an onboard (on mobo) power button or the case power button?

Post issue in my experience come from ram, try 1 single stick of ram in the rig first. See if you can get a post then add the second. Assuming of course you are running 2 sticks or 4.

I was using the case power.

It looks like you have dual channel ram, try running with just 1 stick.

Also check your motherboard's instructions. When running multiple sticks of ram, unless it is occupying all ram slots they DONT go next to eachother. In most cases its in this order:

1 stick:

OCCUPIED | FREE | FREE | FREE

2 Sticks:

OCCUPIED | FREE | OCCUPIED | FREE

4 Sticks:

OCCUPIED | OCCUPIED | OCCUPIED | OCCUPIED

I think this is your issue.

I should worth mentioning that when I was removing the h100i the thermal paste stuck to the CPU. And when I wiggled and pulled the CPU came out of the socket.

It could be possible that you might've bent a pin on your motherboard LGA socket in the process.

It's an amd motherboard and CPU all of the pins are on the CPU and I just checked and all of them seemed fine and slid into the motherboard easily. There was no missing pins

I know the ram is ok becaus I have been using for for the past year

That's flawed reasoning.  Clearly something isn't working, and either it stopped working when you moved to a new case, or something isn't plugged in all the way or correctly.  That's all all it could be really.

"It was working before" is just as irrelevant as saying "well I didn't have a nail in my tire yesterday."  Well you do now.  So some more hardware isolation, or check the CPU pins.

I switched my cpu and didn't touch my ram and I couldn't get my system to boot. It wasn't until I tried a single ram stick it booted, added the rest later. Ram is finicky like that sometimes. It was worth a try.

The thing is I never took out the ram when transferring it over. All I did was take off the h100i and well the CPU stuck to the h100i block I am not sure if that damaged the CPU. I did have another case of this happening with a friends computer as well (8350) but he had no problems I wonder if my CPU got damaged.

I just tried doing to single ram stick and it still does not boot I am going to try to use a different 8 pin connector from my psu to see of the issue is still there.

I have tried changing graphics cards I tried the memory thing again and I have changed the 8 pin power on the psu. But non of that. Worked. I searched a little bit and found that some times you have to have a 4 pin fan for the CPU fan but I tried that and still no success.

By no-post, does everything on the PC spin up but you don't get anything on screen?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Correct.

There is a little red led on the motherboard that says CPU led.

Edit. The graphics card does not spin up. But everything else does.

Unplug everything from the PSU and start all over again. Chances are you have stuff not properly plugged in.

I was thinking of doing that tomorrow but I feel like I might have damaged the CPU because when I removed the h100i from the motherboard it stuck to the cooler while the motherboard had the CPU locked down. I feel that the CPU is damaged because of it.

I've dropped my Core 2 Quad, run it without thermal paste for a month and run it with a sh*tty cooler for all it's life with one case fan and everything is Ay-OK. I feel that your CPU is OK. Maybe it's not the same for AMD CPU's with the pins the other way around.

Do you have another CPU to use to check to see if that's the issue? It's a long shot but it can help out a lot.

Nothing to fear, the qualified night owl is here. Take a pic of the socket and the motherboard with a good camera and inspect it on a PC.

bend or broken of pins. Or just post it here, but make sure the quality is good. maybe the cooler removeall pushed on some pins or the CPU is ripped.
