Go W8.1, suffer through it and upgrade to w10 for a third of the cost that it would cost from w7.

I am building a new pc and i was wondering which version of windows 7 is best for gaming?. I hate windows 8 will upgrade to 10 when it comes out.

For strictly gaming, home premium or better is fine. also 64-bit is a must

Even so it will only take up to 16GB of RAM. That's Home premium 64 bit.

16GB should be fine for gaming for atleast another 4-5 years, probably more

Depends really, if games remains static with volatile memory needs than yeah but if they start scaling to take advantage more RAM you could see 16GB being the norm in 2-3.

If OP ever wanted to render CAD or large video files is what i was getting at but you're right on the gaming front.

Couple years back i got a bulk package of 64bt Win7 ulti. I'd throw you the info if i hadn't built more than 15 systems since and used them all xD

 

W 8.1 and through to win 10 when it comes out is gonna be your best option, im so sorry to have to say "get windows 8!" but 8.1 isnt nearly has bad as 8 was... xD
