Well that sucks.

Yes I know that isn't helpful. Maybe fix whatever you screwed up. What comes up on the screen? What did you upgrade?

EDIT: That may come across rude. It is meant in a "playful" way if you will.

nothing comes up on the screen. I forgot to add. I forgot to format one of my previous SSDs and the computer started fine before with that ssd. However I wanted to do a windows fresh install so I turned the computer off and unplugged the ssd and tried to start the computer again with a new ssd. Now it doesnt work and even when I try to re-plug my previous ssd back on the computer wont work.

did you make sure that all your cables and components like ram is seated in properly?

Just wondering, did it work before the new SSD upgrade? check your mobo for blown capacitors, and perhaps get a new power supply. Please tell us what happened if you should figure it out

Do you have another PSU?

Also check for shorting on the mobo.

What have you upgraded? Was it working fine before the upgrade?

how do I check for shorting on the mono? And I have a thread up on the build log about what my upgrade is. Sorry I can't link cuz I'm on my phone.

so when I finished the build first I started the computer with both my old ssd(unformatted) with my new ssd and it started fine and went to the windows all distorted (since it was a new graphics card and I didn't have a driver installed yet). But I wanted to do a clean windows install on my new ssd so I turned the computer off and unplugged my old ssd out. Now the problem started. It turns on for 3-5 seconds and it powers down.

still check for blown capacitors and try using a different power supply if possible, sounds like an electrical error to me

when I turn the comp on my PSU fan doesn't start does that mean the PSU is blown

your PSU fan doesn't spin? Is it one of those special power supplies that have fans that don't turn on until a certain load percentage? Do any of your other things turn on like case fans and lighting?

yeah I just checked with another PSU same story. The PSU seems fine. Could it be my mono problem. I still get full lighting on my mono so its not dead that's for sure

mono? do you mean mobo? as in motherboard? I'm still not sure what your problem is if it's not the PSU. Keep looking around the inside of the PC and look for irregularities. Try booting off a HDD or a thumb drive if that's possible. May not work but worth a shot

Edit: you still haven't told me if there are any blown capacitors so check that in the meantime

made a progress I stripped everything down and just went with a CPU and a mobo and its stable I'm in the bios. Now I need to figure out what configuration is wrong with the rest of the component. And how would I check for a blown capacitor? BTW thanks for the help

What happens when you press the power button?

Do the fans go mental?

That's what blown caps look like. They either bulge out at the top, or they have some rust like characteristic on the top. They can also leak electrolytes all over the mobo. When you say you just went with a CPU and mobo, is it the ones that were in the malfunctioning PC, or were they new hardware?

Edit: You're welcome on the advice, I've gotten a lot of help and entertainment here on the forums and I feel that I should give back to LTT

no blown capacitors anywhere and I added the GPU and HDD ssd back on without fans and it turns on fine. The problem seems to be coming from my CPU cooler/fans

Sounds a lot like your new graphics card is the problem.

If the PC works fine without the new graphics card, but when you put it in it doesn't work, that's almost definitely the problem.

Hope this helps.

What temperature does your bios read for the CPU?

yeah the fans go extremely mental!

Try reseating the CPU cooler and re-applying thermal paste

Also get rid of any dust build-up on the cooler

turns out it wasnt the cooler either. Its the case fans I have. I plugged all of them through my mobo and it overloaded it somehow. Im not sure how I would install my fans otherwise though. These ones dont come with power cables with them.
