Other people sometimes use evaluation copies...

Then complain to me about their Windows installation being counterfeit.

All the time. "WHY IS MY CPU SAYING THAT WINDOWS IS COUNTERFEIT?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!"

Linus has just about no game support and it's not very newbie friendly

It is very easy to use and has support for a lot more games than you think. My tech illiterate grandmothers prefer ubuntu/elementary os to windows xp, 7, and 8

It is just easier to use.

Pros being its free and it doesn't matter which distributiuon you choose, you will always get latest updates made to core features. Unlike with windows where you get one OS and then update only to that OS. Cons being limited game database/support, some problems with peripherals support and power use requires some command line skills or patience and google.

No and no. Aside from newest AAA titles you can get many games working with little effort. Either natively with Steam or GOG.com, or with WINE emulating. For basic use Ubuntu & co. are really user friendly. As mentioned above, power users will eventually need to either learn to use command line commands or google everytime you want to install something that is not yet officially supported.
