This is my $1200 build challange.

This is not actual being built, but I thought it'd be fun to create a thread and see who could make the most competitive $1200 build, give or take a maximum of $50.

Rules:

1. This must include everything, except peripherals and the operating system.

2. This must include a monitor.

3. The list must be created on PCPartPicker, using no mail-in rebates or promotions.

This is in the correct thread because the Build Planning sub-forum is for actual planned builds.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Total: $1175.60

This is what I'd do, if it were my build. I guess I'll have to justify what I picked before I get flamed :P

I went with the locked processor because I've had a 2700k for years and never had the need or desire to overclock it.

Oh no! Z97 with a locked processor? For shame! It matches the color scheme and I need the extra USB ports that the H series don't provide.

256gb SSD, more than enough for a few games and the OS.

The price was $1273 before rebates. So, still a little more than the give or take number you gave, but woooorth it.

It'd fit if I knocked it down to 8gb of RAM.

Here in Vermont, for a used car, a Subaru Outback is the best car to get. Especially now that it's winter.

If a Miata is an answer, it is the answer. ;)

Full disclosure, I own a mustang as a fun car, there are no Miatas in my stable. I wouldn't be upset if one showed up though :)
