Ok so I'm wondering if intel will fix the heat problem with their next tic update. I know that haswell is a big step fot notebooks and tablets but I'm wondering if intel will do anything to help with heat so enthusiasts can overclock easier. I honestly don't think they will just because the heat wouldn't be a big problem for things like tablets and ultrabooks which is what this chip is catering to. Though I'm by no means an intel expert and I have no idea what they have up their sleeve.

Enthusiasts are rare species, extremely loud but not as powerful as they would like to be.

Intel has delivered on what they promised with Haswell. Clock for clock, Haswell is 10 to 15% faster than Ivy Bridge.

No promises were made on 5GHz overclocks. I doubt Intel is going to do anything about overclocking Haswell. They said that there will be chips that wouldn't go past 4.2GHz, and there will be chips that can hit 4.8GHz.

They probably just assume that the enthusiasts who are not satisfied with their temps delid their CPUs.

I'm not really sure what they assume but I hate the whole silicon lottery thing. There is no certainty that when you buy an intel chip that you are getting something that worth $280 (if you shop at microcenter). I guess they assume that we all use socket 2011 or something.

as to fixing the heat issue.

intel claimed already that haswell would be great for enthusiasts.

what does this mean.

-wider range for quality of cpu

-they don't feel the heat is an issue for enthusiasts

-the BCLK unlocked

Great for enthusiasts? Well I guess they don't think people will be overclocking unless they have a custom water loop or some high end cooler.

I never said I agree with them lol.

that was their PR statement prior to Haswells release.

No I know I'm not blaming you or anything, it just makes me mad that they want you to play the silicon lottery.

honestly I wish they would suck it up and solder the IHS to the die again.

when steamroller comes out everybody should buy that as opposed to the haswell refresh,Intel would get the message.

When does steamroller come out? I honestly haven't seen much from the red camp in a little while besides that. Also do you know the price point?

I would assume/hope it stays at $140-199 xx20-xx50.

supposedly it's 2013-2014.

server class in 2013,and unknown for consumer grade, though I would guess later 2013,or 2014.

The only problem with steam roller is I'm not sure if its going to run any cooler than haswell  :(

doesn't matter just stick it to intel, they'll get the message about soldering the IHS if they lose maybe 10-20 billion dollars

Yah true, true I just hope that steamroller can get to 5.0 ghz without having to play the "silicon lottery" to find that one diamond in the rough cpu.

well personally, and this is just me,but I'd prefer they got the IPC of the 5ghz piledriver on a 3.5ghz steamroller chip.

and that (average) steamroller chip having the ability to overclock to 5ghz drool.gif

that.would.be.MARVELOUS

Intel would get curb-stomped and be forced to get their shit back in gear.

I know it won't happen IPC is what intel does....sorry what intel DID.

besides you already have a 4770K,would you really buy steam roller if it came out this year, even if it was that good?

If I knew that I could get 5 ghz out of steamroller and it was reasonable priced I would buy it in a heart beat. As long as I could get 5 ghz without having to play the "silicon lottery". Also who said I have a 4770k? I don't.

so if you could get 5ghz *cough*at 1.875v*cough* then you would buy it in a heartbeat lol.

well.......good luck cooling it with that melted h110....on the bright side the copper is now melted off and you can sell it on ebay.

and....you guessed it folks no more need for a stove!

lol no but in all seriousness you'd need some serious sh*t to cool it at 1.875v,I'm not sure that 5x doublethick 480mm radiators with 3mm-H20 fans set to push pull could cool it effectively, though we should ask ghost,he might know what could.
