So right now, I can barely render anything as my 4790k reaches 90+ degrees celcius. I am using the stock cooler and am looking to get a good, affordable cooler. I've heard the 212 evo is very good value for money, but will I be able to overclock with it in the future? I have low profile RAM so heatsink to RAM clashing shouldn't be an issue (I don't think). Also, how would an H100i or water cooling solution improve temps (if it does at all)?

Thanks,

Blueprint

Watercooling would, of course, be better than the 212 evo, but the Hyper 212 should be able to achieve a decent overclock

Also, i don't think it should reach 90C just rendering! (or should it?)

You'd be better off going with a watercooler with those temps

Would a H100i for example give better temps? From a video I've seen it looks like the 212 was just as good, if not slightly better. (Yeah, CPU load is usually at 100% load when rendering hence the high temps.)

H100i/H110/H105 will be definitely better.

I have a H110, and it's amazing,

Go with the h110 if you can for the 140mm Fans, but if you prefer the 120mm size, go H105, IMO it looks better

I have a FX 8350 which gets a lot more hotter in general in 4790k. Now with h100i I have a .5 ghz overclock and max temp is 60 Degrees celcius. (Why didnt I go higher? The mofsets overheat)

How much OC do you want? Im at  3.5ghz (3.0 ) stock on my bloomfield which runs as hot as a fireball. The 212+ I have can hold it down to 60C max which is incredible for my chip. AIO would definitely cool better but if you are not OC'ing a lot you don't really need the AIO (Unless you are balling!)
