So i was doing some browsing today, debating on wether or not to buy the new i7 5820K. I'm building a brand new PC and it's my first build. However i came across something.

With me being smart about things... i decided to currently not buy any DDR4 RAM and an i7 Haswell Processor for the simple reason of that they're going to be outdated pretty quickly. According to some sources, there's a new chipset that's going to be coming out on the DDR4 "Platform" called Skylake or something along those lines.

Basically what i'm getting at is... does anybody think that waiting out for Skylake chipset will be any benefit to myself and to the general consumer or do you think it will just be a rebrand of Haswell?

I'm just creating this for anybody looking for information about the subject i suppose and on whether or not the new Motherboards would fit within the Skylake architecture, Haswell motherboards that is, because i just bought an MSI SLI Plus X99 board. Pretty sure some other people might do the same then wait out for the processor's and cheaper RAM or something but i'd like to know peoples thoughts and opinions on everything Skylake.

Skylake will be better than haswell, just like haswell was better than ivy, and ivy was better than sandy.

There is always going to be a new generation so you need to decide whether you want to buy now or wait another year.

I was reading an article and it said early 2015? Or is that just 'Improved' Haswell? Considering Haswell has just come out, i'm presuming so.

Early 2015 is Broadwell, the die shrink

if its DDR4 you are waiting for, not really worth waiting for in most builds until DDR4 matures.

I'm mainly just building a starting rig for modelling and gaming. I'm going to build on it once i finish University and have a full time (Well paid) job.

I'm mainly just building a starting rig for modelling and gaming. I'm going to build on it once i finish University and have a full time (Well paid) job.

Any current chipset will be fine, Broadwell will be better than Haswell, but by a small margin, the same way that Haswell was better than Ivy Bridge slightly, and Ivy Bridge better than Sandy Bridge slightly. I was thinking of holding off for Broadwell for a current build im working on, rumour is they will offer DDR3 and DDR4 variants of boards. I didn't want to pay the price premium of DDR4 though it might be 'better' so with what is realistically probably an unnoticeable difference between real word use (not benching) I went for a Haswell instead of waiting.

If you need something now, get it, if you want to wait for the better performing processor, you'll find when every release comes out you'll want to wait for the next one because it will be better. Welcome to the fast moving technology of computers.

PCIE 4.0? I thought 4.0 was going to be fibre and only for super high end server application or something

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

It is true, that Broadwell will be a die shrink to 14nm, but Broadwell isn´t the big leap for it is the TICK. And Skylake is far away. If you need a new rig now go for it. The people that bought Ivy at the time are still doing good and a i7 3770K still kicks ass :) .
