Is FX really that much of a bottleneck ?

The FX 8350 is good enough to drive a GTX 780ti to the max but not quite good enough to drive a dual card setup even though the two 7950s still were a bit faster than the 780ti.

With a Single card set up its a great CPU, but when you go into Multi GPU setups it becomes all sorts of nasty.

TBH, the 8350 is long in the tooth. It's a decent chip, but it's stale. I'm more interested in newer tech from either vendor and as it stands, X99 is overkill for people who don't do workstation grade tasks and AMD is relying too much on old tech for as long as possible.

We really are tired of this. I love AMD and all, I have a Kaveri APU in my system. But right now, the 4690k is just a better cpu.

I think any setups with Quad SLI/CFX GPUs become nasty no matter what Platform, Hardware configuration and CPUs you use. The scaling is just not there with 4 way and is often worse performance than with dual GPUs.

That awkward moment when I just ran valley on my GTX780 + 4690k setup and had higher minimums and pretty much the same average (within margin of error).

The i5 4460 is a great value considering you have to get a 970 board to run 8xxx chip, but you can run a locked i5 on some cheap H81's

If you look into it 4 way SLI/CFX is just fail. It honestly scales worse than 2 and 3 way in almost all games and aside from the terrible scaling the performance is often a bit worse than 2 way.

You are right about scaling being bad, although AMD is improving for 4 way xfire as of recent, but I've never heard of it performing worse than 2 way. Never. Worse than 3 way, yes.

I'm talking about CROSSFIRE. That's SLI. Most games with crossfire benefit with 1 card especially at 4k. A few don 't like Bioshock infinite

Most SLI setups benefit from 3 way, and a few even 4 way, though not a lot with nvidia, it's not something they push for or even suggest you do like AMD
