Just finished my network cabinet, it's taken a while since we moved into the new house to run all the cables.

Everything is cat6, no shared/split points. I've also run cable for some camera's but have't decided on what to go with yet. I'll need a POE switch for these.

The cabinet is in my garage so there's no noise in the house.

It's a Synology DS1511+ with 5x 2tb WD Greens and a DX510 with 4x 3tb WD Greens

Well we had a thread like this before, but there goes:

42SRd03.png

The servers and the router are located in the basement, they are hooked up to a UPS modified to run a car battery so power outages are not a problem.

Its probably obviuos why i dont have a storage server or a NAS even if i did i couldnt afford to buy drives for it.

And yeah this was done in a flat building so to all you people who complain about not being able to run an ethernet cable in your own house - cmon guys.

Something wrong with your connection ?

Run the damn cable :)

So we have different gateways for our internet and our set-top boxes, to not have to run extra cables, we use VLANs to have different virtual networks.

All Switches are L2 managed.

We have the following switches:

1x TP-Link TL-SG3424

3x TP-Link TL-SG3210

We also have a bunch of wireless devices like cellphones, tablets and some laptops (when they aren't plugged in).

Do you know where you got those patch cords from. They would be ideal for my setup I am working on at the moment.

I just don't get how you guys would want to actually tear up your house for ethernet cables..   It's cheaper to just have a modem in each room and it'll just cost an extra 4$ on your internet bill...

I've setup networks and find it to be a pain...

I got them from a place called 4cabling in Australia... I'm sure there would be a shop similar where you are. Be weary. 25cm patch leads are a lot shorter than you think.

Not sure what you're suggesting. If you're suggesting a seperate adsl line into each room in Australia that would cost an absolute bomb. I pay $100pm now that would cost me $400pm and it would completely defy the point of have a central storage point.

I'm in the US and it costs next to nothing to have extra lines installed, but Australia is overpriced on everything...
