I'm using gigabyte 970 itx GPU and was playing far cry 3 on max settings for about an hour. Afterburner reported that the max temp it got to was 77c. I've never messed with afterburner in the past since my last build was in a big case and there was plenty of air flow I didn't worry, but now that I'm using a tiny case(ft03 mini) I figured I should check things out. As soon as I saw 77 I popped the front panel off of my case. Here's my build if it helps(http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3znVCJ) Should I be concerned? Any recommendations?

77c is perfectly safe, although I'd expect it to run cooler unless you've overclocked it, have poor airflow, or lowered fan speeds.

I'd only start to worry if it starts hitting the 90-100 mark

I agree here, Try reduce your problems by changing your case and seeing if the card runs cooler with better airflow, if so, that's your problem.

With your 970 77c is normal under full load some gpu like the 290/290x can get up to a massive 95c and still be safe.

Yeah, 77 is a little hot, but it should be safe

The TJMax of that card is 98 degrees celcius. If it's anything like mobile Kepler, it'll start downclocking at 92 degrees and be impossible to destroy via heat. If it's not like mobile kepler, then... make sure it doesn't sit in the 90s all day. But 77 is fine, and not very hot considering GPUs in general. Many desktop users want their machines running sub-60 all the time, but it's in no way necessary. I'd only be concerned if I was always in the high 80s.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Perhaps it is most likely an airflow issue, when I popped the front panel off and played for 30 minutes it dropped to about 60. I did switch the air penetrator fan for a noctua fan because it was loud, maybe the AP fan will yield different result, I'll try that tomorrow though.
