My computer needs around 70 s to totally boot. With loading the most applications....

Specs:

Amd fx 8350 overclocked to 4.4 ghz

With a noctua nh-d14

Msi gtx 970 overclocked a little

16 gb ddr3 ram

Asus m5a97 r2.0

4 case fans

Samsung 250gb ssd

2 terabyte hdd

Be quiet 600w 80 silver plus

Bitfenix Shinobi

And yes I have my OS on the ssd. I do not have any big or many applications which decrease my boot time. So does anybody know if this boot time is normal?

And if not what I could do against it?

How old is the ssd?

Update it to the lastest firmware. The 840 Evo had issues with older files taking a long time to access (assuming your ssd is an 840 evo).

If that doesn't fix it, then I'd suggest backing up anything important and doing a fresh install.

Haha yes it is the 840 evo. So you would recommend buying a new one? Do you have any recommendations?

This one?

You *can* (not recommended) defrag the disk, but that'd chew up a lot of read/write cycles (can't remember if its one or the other, or both).

But I'm sure the new firmware is out that fixes the issue of read speed degradation.

Yes but doing so moves all the data, thus regenerating the read speeds.

As I said "but that'd chew up a lot of read/write cycles", which is not good for an SSD, and otherwise improves the SSD's performance by nothing because it is solid state storage.

Does the Motherboard Bios section (before booting Windows) take up most of that time..?

Maybe update your Mobo bios...?

Theres no reason to get a new drive, just download Samsung Magician and update the firmware on the drive. If that doesn't fix the issue then just format and reinstall windows on the drive.

Not really all defraging does is arrange the data sequentially which does not benefit ssds at all because it reads randomly

Ah I have no idea of the difference between sequential and random, but I do know that other than rejuvenating the read speeds of the 840/EVO, defragmention of an SSD is useless.

Well, thats not exactly true....The reason the 840 Evo's speed decreased is due to a flaw in the way the drive works, which causes older data to get slower. So defraging recreates all those files as if they were brand new thereby increasing speeds -- however, it's still not really smart to do on an ssd, especially when a firmware update takes care of everything.

Yeah, just mentioning it because I remember watching a PCPer video about the read speed degradation, and I wasn't sure if the firmware was out yet.

I see that your motherboard supports UEFI.

Assuming you are on Windows 8, and that your motherboard is fully UEFI supported,

Your computer should boot from the "click" sound from your power button to desktop in 6sec.

That is if you want to to know the ideal startup time that your system should be able to deliver.

Sequential read: 315 mb/s

Sequential write: 445 mb/s

Random read: 46228 iops

Random write: 28360 iops

Those are pretty slow. If your drives are up to date, I'd recommend formatting and doing a fresh install of the OS and seeing if that fixes it.

You don't disable the pagefile, limit it yes, but don't actually remove it.. EVEN if you have 16GB+ of Memory, there are some apps that are HARDLOCKED to using it (coded that way) and when you disable it weird shit can happen within the app, bugs, errors, instability, data corruption.

SRSLY

Plus it's not a performance enhancing thing to turn it off anyway, overall, it should be left on for those lazy pieces of software that require it.
