Looking for a new laptop for school

rhino4293

Hey

I'm looking for a laptop for when on the road or not able to use my desktop on campus. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I will be using this laptop to mostly: search the web(multiple chrome tabs open), Microsoft office, Adobe reader, visual studios, devC++, Eclipse, any other compiler. I will use this computer occasional to stream movie to TV via hdmi and play steam games(Injustice, Skyrim) and minecraft. I would like to keep this as cheap as possible but still a decent laptop.

I like both but y50 is out of budget, and the y40 is little bit out budget. maybe I could work it out. is there anything a little bit cheaper?

Not sure, haven't done a whole lot of looking for laptops recently as I have not had the money to even consider getting one right now.

This is the lowest I'd go for acceptable frame rates in games (840M)

Lenovo Z40 ...only 820M, but quite good for its price

The cheapest Z40 is $580, and it only has an 820M, which is not a huge improvement over Haswell Intel HD. It would be a better idea to shell out the extra $50 for the Aspire V3 I showed earlier, for the noticeably more powerful, as well as Maxwell-based (820M is last-gen Fermi) GT 840M GPU. Especially since OP wants to play games like Injustice and Skyrim.

The Acer has more graphics power then the Y40, as GT 840M > R7 M265

Edit: the new Y40 with the R9 M270 is better then the Acer however.

Afaik the older models were M265, but I checked the website and now they seem to be using M270s, which are better then GT 840M
