cpu: i5 4440 @3.1ghz (un overclockable)

mobo: msi gaming 5

gpu: gtx 970

hdd: i have 1 wd green and 3 840 evos

1. Nice choice on an expensive overclocking based mobo for a non overclockable CPU

/s

2. It probably would run, but it may cut it a bit

The MSI Gaming 5 isn't a "overclocking" motherboard, it's for "gamers" which equate to features such as a better NIC, audio etc.

It can overclock, but it's not the boards main focus.

To answer OP, you need atleast 750-800W power supply for SLI.

The 970 requires 145W, so if it's more than 500W you'll see no cuts also if you oc the gpu...

rig: i7 4770k @4.1Ghz (delidded), Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600Mhz, ROG Maximus VI Hero, Noctua NH-D14, EVGA GTX980SC, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, Corsair SF600, self-built wooden Case, CoolerMaster QuickFire TK, Logitech G502, Blue Yeti, BenQ GW2760HS

Yeah, but no H mobo has SLI compatibility (as far as i know)...

This is quite a drastic change... Just a few days ago you guys were recommending good 650W PSU's for 970 SLI since it's Maxwell, and  now you're recommending 750-800... What changed O.o

To the OP, you can, especially since you got a locked CPU :D

I don't know about any bottlenecks with your CPU (since it's un-overclockable...)?

The 970 Draws ~300W power under load. you CPU draws 84W. Your Drives Draw ~10W though t is unlikely they will all read/write simultaneously.  RAM about 7W. Totals to roughly 700W total maximum power draw.

In other words, it is very close ^^

I'm only quoting GURU3D.

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

  • GeForce GTX 970 or 980 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit.
  • GeForce GTX 970 or 980 in 2-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have an 800 Watt power supply unit as minimum.
