Trouble With new 3tb Hard drive

My 3tb black drive just arrived from amazon today and I installed it and set it to GPT so it's not partitioned. When I go to my computer to look at the drive it as a disc icon like an iso file or a disc in a disc drive. Is it installed wrong and if so how do I get it to have the icon like the SSD in my c drive? Pictures below.

Did you format the drive?  Did you run the cmd.exe chkdsk command to find errors?  Do you have or use smart defrag? 

That's the extent of my knowledge, good luck!

I had to format it to make it available for use. I have not used smart defrag. I checked the the cmd and it said no problems. I tried to re install the drive and when I do it opens the autoplay window that happens when I put in a flash drive.

Go into disk utility and format however you would like. Also can i get a picture of a right click on the drive in my computer?

It doesn't look like anything's wrong, just because there's an icon doesn't mean anything's wrong. Assuming you can write data to it and partition it and have it work correctly, I think the icon is just an icon.

Change the icon image....

OK. Can you guys show me how to change the icon then. I right clicked the drive and went into properties and when I set the icon as the new image and refresh nothing happens.

Set the icon, hit apply and OK, then refresh. Pretty straightforward.

Oh whoops my bad. Did you use your own image or one of the Microsoft folder thumbnails?

I dont know where to find the Microsoft ones but I found one on the internet that is 256x256 and tried that and it did not work.
