For gaming, negligible. If you're purely gaming, the 4690K will suffice very well. IMO, it's not worth it over the 4690K.

And I'm sitting here with an i7 when I could have easily gone with an i5.

Kind of a waste. But I'm starting to get into after effects/photoshop.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Like everyone else has said, the only advantages for similar processors (4690K-4790K) is Hyper threading... Which has minor performance changes in games. Things like editing, and rendering are a different story... They can be better with Hyper Threading.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

If you want to do a couple things in the background while gaming, the 4790k is the better choice but really for gaming that's about it. If you can afford it then go ahead, but consider placing the budget somewhere else in your build.

Also in the long run the i7-4790K will prove to be useful, it's aslo a binned chip that is guarantee to run at 4.4ghz out of the box on any H97 motherboard

so i'd go with this kit that way you don't need an expensive aftermaket heatsink for overclocking just lock the 4790K at 4.4ghz on all 8 thread and it's a gaming

beast that is already overclocked and ready to rock under the stock intel heatsink:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($299.98 @ NCIX US)

Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($67.98 @ Newegg)

Total: $367.96

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

IMHO this kit won't really make sense anymore and it's the most recommended one out here:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.99 @ Amazon)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.97 @ NCIX US)

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($102.98 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $342.94

As you can see they cost almost the same, and you are not even guarantee to hit 4.5ghz and you're still stuck with a core i5.

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
