No, but they do have a new product that enables you to plugin an external desktop gpu. It's pretty neat.

Really? I saw a guy upgrade his gpu to an 800series m card on youtube. Any idea how he got that gpu?

Technically nothing is impossible. That said, upgrading laptop CPU/GPU is just pointlessly picky. You need to soder stuff, and know how the board works. I would not recommend you doing it if you are thinking of doing so.

For the chipset, you can probably buy them off eBay. My friend bought his from Alibaba (and failed to install it and broke his laptop)

That is just for the alienware 13. There are options from other companies, but they use a thunderbolt connector so you can't  use them on most laptops.

Okay. Do you have a point here? OP was asking very specifically about alienware laptops so I posted something about alienware laptops. Now you've quoted me and are saying I'm wrong and there are options out there (that are literally the same concept as the one I posted) for some laptops that have thunderbolt (which the alienware laptops do not have).

maybey it is smart to ask what laptop he has because as far as i know some can and some cant

Maybe your reading and comprehension is bad?

"Really? I saw a guy upgrade his gpu to an 800series m card on youtube. Any idea how he got that gpu?"

To which I replied "Nope."

As far as I know the only laptop that has a gpu that you can upgrade without literally soldering a gpu to the laptop which probably won't work, is the lenovo y510p.

I'm saying that the "alienware graphics amplifier" only works on the alienware 13 so it isn't useful for him.

You can't just de-solder a gpu and re-solder a new one. That isn't a thing. There is firmware and software involved, possibly even bios reflashes that would need to be done. Your friend sounds like an idiot.

It's more useful that what you suggested which is literally the same thing I suggested but won't work with alienware laptops which was the entire point to this thread. Hur dur. I at least posted relevant information. You posted something that doesn't help OP at all, in any way, shape or form.

Most Alienware laptops have a separate GPU inside that you can remove and upgrade. Well, the bigger ones any way.

However, please note, you'll need to bend over and your ass will be bleeding by the time you are done as they are horrifically expensive.

Neither does your information, he doesn't have an alienware 13, if he did he would have seen all the advertising for it, and he probably wouldn't be concerned about a new gpu yet.

Expensive and will cause more heat which will cause more problems. If you're buying a laptop you really need to buy the specs you want for the next two or three years because upgrading isn't a viable option.

How do you know he doesn't have an alienware 13? Did you ask him? Maybe he didn't see the advertisements. You're assuming way too much and trying to argue about some dumb shit. You're post wasn't helpful at all. You didn't reference alienware at all. You didn't offer any information and are now trying to argue that fact. Another idiot to the LTT list.

If he didn't see all of the advertisements for it when he bought and alienware 13, he isn't even worth helping, they were always advertised as a combo. The alienware 13 is also very new so it is even more unlikely that he has one. You can ask him, but I know he doesn't have one. You call me an idiot but my iq is in the top 2% and fyi you used the wrong your (you used you're).

yes you did use the right one. My iq is 135 and that isn't from a fake internet test, it is from the official school system. I do live at home but that is expected because I am 14, which you could have seen if you looked at my profile. I am the one trying to stay calm, unlike you who is just wildly swearing and insulting me.

From what I've heard lurking around on the internet:

The graphics cards with the lesser vram capacity are soldered on. The ones with the highest capacity are MXM module cards.

That's all I remember. I've never messed around with graphics cards on my laptops. If you really want upgradeability go with Clevo/Sager.

I learned this from browsing notebookreview a while back when I wanted a laptop. Never verified it.

So for example the 3 gb 970m, soldered on. The 6gb 970m. MXM. Same for the 4 and 8 gb 980m. That's what I heard.
