The three questions i have are is it more important to have better single threading, how much do the GHz affect the FPS, and what do logical cores do on AMD processors.

Here are a few CPUs im looking at

Definately the i5 for gaming. Games favor faster stronger cores as opposed to 4 weak ones.

Main: i7 2600 | ASUS P8Z68-V | 2x4GB Vengeance 1600 | GTX 580 | WD Blue 1TB | Antec TP-650C | NH U12S | W7 x64

Backup: X6 1090T | MSI K9A2 Platinum | 4x2GB XMS2 800 | GTX 550Ti | WD Blue 1TB |  Antec VP-450 | CM TX3 | W7 x64

4690k for sure

I could explain why it is better than any AMD CPU in 99% of everything, but that would take a while and you should take my word for it :P

Let's jsut say that core performance is much more important that core count (past 4 cores or course, 2 core CPUs can be a bottleneck)

I5 All the way.

Games don't use more than 4 cores at this point in time, so an octo-core CPU won't do much to benefit you.

(There are a few games that do, but its not worth it)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Okay, first off, fuck the FX 9590. It's completely useless as an option in the market, an i7 outclasses it in almost every way, and it consumes too much power and produces too much heat. Also, it requires a high end motherboard.

The 9590 is an FX 8350 that is overclocked to 5.0GHz. The i5 will undoubtedly be better for gaming across the board after overclocking. It's also better at power consumption, heat output, etc.

We can all go on about why the i5 is better than the FX 9590, but we also think that you should trust us.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 500GB Crucial P3 Plus, 4TB Silicon Power UD90 | GPU: AsRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Steel Legend | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Corsair SF850

Main Server: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 | Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair VII Hero WiFi | Storage: 512GB SKHynix NVMe | GPUs: NVIDIA TITAN Xp 2-way SLI | Cooling: Thermalright Frozen Prism 360mm | Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow (White) | PSU: Seasonic Focus GM850
