This is a stupid question that I'm fairly certain I'm able to do.

So I have 8gb of memory in my system right now and I want to add another 8gb so that I have 16gb all together.

To do this, do I have to buy the same memory that I already have in the system?

And when I do install it, do I have to reset anything on the mobo in order to get no errors.

Again, it's a pretty stupid question that I  think I am able to do - but just checking as I don't want to be too confident and waste my money.

-Thanks!

Soo many games, not enough money to get any.

I have 2x4GB and 2x2GB of memory that is not the same brand or even originally the same speed/latencies and it works perfectly together.

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

It could be a different brand, just make sure it's the same timings and speed.

You looking to keep your existing RAM in the system? If so, what timings And speed do they/it operate at.

I have 2x4GB and 2x2GB of memory that is not the same brand or even originally the same speed/latencies and it works perfectly together.

I used to have 2x4 avexir and 2x4 team ram, both worked flawlessly.

Ahh, I see

thanks everyone - this is why I double checked!

I say it's a gamble. People with the G.Skill Sniper 8GB kit awhile back wanted to buy another kit to make 16GB total and were having compatibility issues and were even told by G.Skill reps they should have bought a 16GB kit to begin with since those dimms were tested to work together. In theory it should work most of the time if the specs are identical, I'm personally not a fan of mix matching ram if I can help it.
