Why not just save money and get an i5+GTX 970? You'll still get more than 60FPS on Ultra on damn near any game.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I'd say save money and get the i5 + 970 and put a little more money in to a better PSU.  Could also swap out the SSD for another one, a little cheaper the MX100 by Crucial, it's equivalent performance, if not a little better and uses MLC nand, which some do enjoy over TLC.  All in all looks solid ^^  Eventual upgrades to it when you have money could be to a Zowie mouse, CM-storm TK keyboard(mechanical), and eventually some HyperX Cloud's for the headset, but overall solid beginning ^^

Why not leave the 980 for the possible 120-144hz or 1440p monitor ?

That is a true option as well.  If he is only going for 1080p, 970, but if he does decide to go to over 60hz on 1080 or to 1440p - 970 sli is good, or a single 980 is perfect as well.  It's all based on budget, I suppose.

get build # 1 and switch the gtx 980 in to a 970 or a r9 290, a 970 / r9 290 is plenty for today's games. Also you WILL have compatibility issue with the new intel refresh series and a z87 motherboard. Get a z97 board. Also the 290 is 2 times cheaper.

Im going to be using the one included with the cpu since i dont plan on overclocking

why get a K-series CPU in the first place if you are not overclocking? if u want to get a K, use a Hyper 212 Evo: its cooler, quieter, allows for decent overclocks and is pretty darn cheap.
