Hi,

I'm planning to get a "second" computer and I'm not sure what is the more powerful of these two CPUs : http://ark.intel.com/compare/79052,80270

The Celeron is used in an Intel NUC that I would like to buy and throw in at least 4 Gb of RAM and an SSD, the Atom is used in an Asus Transformer Pad and an Asus MeMo Pad, and they both have 1 Gb of RAM and run on Android. I'd like to know what I can expect from these two devices and what would be the better choice, keeping in mind that the NUC will be less expensive.

Thanks

Probably that Celeron can play 4K videos, I doubt that about the Atom.

I think you should go with a celeron, There is more compability on that one.

Go for the Celeron, far more powerful than the Atom and you'll have full Windows/Linux instead of being stuck on Android.

Alright thanks for your replies. I think I'll go for the NUC then. I still have a few questions though :

- Do they support dual channel memory? I'm not sure whether I should get a 4 Gb stick of RAM in order to upgrade to 8 Gb by adding another one later (next year probably), or just buy 2 sticks of 2Gb

- What chances do I have to be able to play some light games like Rayman or some independant games like Contra or Brothers? Let's say with 2 sticks of 2Gbs at 1600 Mhz.

Thanks

The CPU does support dual channel memory, but the iGPU is extremely weak, slower than HD3000 even. If you think you're going to need more than 4GB which I slightly doubt but I don't know your usage, then get 1 4GB DIMM now and another one later. If you're only going to use 4GB which I doubt you're going to use more than that, then go for the 2x2GB

It supports 2 memory channels, If they are in dual channel, i cant answer.

It should handle good enough for very light games at 30fps, I cant say for certain how well it will handle Rayman, Contra and Brothers since im not familiar with those games in terms of performance.

But if you really planning on gaming on it i would rather recomend a Gigabyte AMD Brix,

becouse AMD has better integrated graphics.
