r9 280x crossfire vs buying a new video card..

Go to solution Solved by Tacitus,

Sell the 280x and get a 970 and save for a second 970. Two 970s will give you better results at 1440p 144hz and not cost much more than a single 980.

Hello, I currently have a computer in a 900D with 32 gigs of gskill 2666 ram, Rampage IV black edition, i7 4930k, and a Asus ROG Matrix R9 280x Platinum, so I was Wondering if I should buy another r9 280x matrix or to sell the one I have and buy something new. (My friend has a r9 280x Matrix plat which he is willing to sell me for $240).

I play all kinds of games, anything from skyrim, to Minecraft to Crisis to Run escape to far cry, I heavy mod games such as skyrim, fallout, etc.. And I would to like get more frame rate and smoother gameplay.

Oh yeah, I have the Asus dog Swift monitor ( 2560 x 1440, 1ms response time, 144 GHz). For example on skyrim my frame rate is between 35 - 60 FPS, and i get some screen tearing when i am below 50 fps...

A 980 would be a worth upgrade....and you could use g sync (and perhaps pick up a 2nd 980 in a years time).

I was going to say wait for the 390(x) but you have a g-sync monitor. Sell your 280x and buy a 980

I have a EVGA NEX 1300w

That would do crossfire.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend and how long you want to wait. You could get that second Matrix for cheap, but not all games support multi gpu. Or spend more for an Nvidia and take advantage of gsync. Or wait for the 3xx series, no release date yet so who knows how long and it will be expensive.
