Thinking of selling my current rig because the person who i bought it off wasn't very good at picking parts or building computers so i'm gonna have a crack at doing it properly, just asking for some constructive criticism from some more knowledgeable people than me on the rigs i'm thinking of. (note aesthetics doesn't really matter to me, as long as it matches and it highly funtional) (Also, i live in a very hot and dusty house, so dust filters and good airflow are critical, which is why i went with the cases i did instead of a fractal or h440)

I would go with the first build with an Asus Tuf Gryphon in Corsair Air 240.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro looks beast!

As for the GPU:

  • Gigabyte: Better cooling
  • Asus: Will not spin its fans until the card hits 60°C

Your first build looks like it's the best! You're getting a lot of good performance for that price. I would suggest you buy a cheaper Z97 board if you can since even the lowest tier one will work fine - the most expensive boards just have some unnecessary features. Z97 is a solid chipset that you can't go wrong with, no matter the mobo. It's up to you though :)

Country, how much do you wanna spend what are the uses for the system?

Country is most probably Australia. As for use: I suspect gaming (GTX 970 + I5-4690K)

AS for the budget, it seems his proposals are about 2k AUD.

I'm just guessing this from his proposal builds.

Australia. Basic gaming and multimedia, no video editing or anything like that, maybe some light photoshop

Why the gryphon over the current and you need low profile ram to use that heatsink the rest use pro obv.

And considering i wear headphones and my idle is about 50 looks like gigabyte where possible,

any other motherboards you recommend that still fits with colour scheme (basically army green, tan or black)? since i wont be doing much overclocking i wouldn't the high end anyway

And is your build good and do you like it?

Still to be found out. Parts are in the mail.  :D  :D  :D

Only difference we have is the motherboard. I went for a Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 mATX. I was originally going to go with the mini ITX form factor as it had wifi but the mATX gives you the option to have dual graphics cards and also doubles your ram from 16 to 32.

OO that looks nice, but wouldnt that case be super restrictive with airflow? Apart from that it looks like a very descent build which i will definitely take into consideration.

I know what you mean about colours, I thought I was quite picky about it. My build is blue, black, red and yellow, but because my PC case doesn't have a window it doesn't bother me too much. It is different when you buy a case with a window though. If you were really desperate to get rid of the yellow you could use plasti dip or another appropriate paint. Mobo heatsinks don't get stupidly hot so it won't affect performance much at all.

id rather not disassemble and paint tho

Watching the review on it it just seems a bit cheap, that extra $400 in the budget could be used to upgrade things like that, no? Structurally sound but more of a budget case whereas i'd rather have something a bit more premium

Well my standards in choosing a case is whether the value of the case is worth the price. If you're not comfortable with a cheap case, you can look on the Phanteks Enthoo Pro, Air 540, or the Fractal Design R5. Personally, I would save that $400 to buy another GTX 970. ;)

Ypu do make a very valid point. Although i only run 1 1080p screen with another second screen for youtube videos etc so that horsepower would pretty much be wasted. And i don't plan on going 4k any time soon, too much for the screens.

Then you can use that remaining $400 to buy a new 1440p IPS screen. You can also buy another screen for a surround gaming setup. :D

Would 1440p be that much worth it? I don't have enough room for surround lol, 24" and 17" barely fits on my desk let alone triple 24" And nvidia only accepts same model monitors for surround. And i've got a Oculus planned for my immersive stuff.

Well choosing a monitor is a bit subjective. Tbh having a 24" isn't that bad since you can't actually max out all of the games today. Still it's a better experience in getting a 1440p monitor(more space for productive activities :D ).

I rarely do productive things, i might get into it but not spending $400 for a maybe i might use it.
