Video Editing Help

Go to solution Solved by Geekazoid,

I would like to start video editing. I am very new to it and was wondering what would be the best software for a beginner, I was looking at adobe premiere though and that seems pretty good.

Yeah, Adobe Premiere Pro is used by many, but it does have a steep learning curve that requires a boatload of patience. Sony Vegas Pro is another good video editor. It does require a decent amount of learning, but once you do it's quite good. :)

Photo editing and video editing are two very different things.

Oh, whoops I meant video editing. Why can't you read my mind

Start off with windows live movie maker and learn how to use that by google or youtube videos.

When you can edit a video quickly and understand all the features than go to premier pro or sony vegas.

As Enderman suggests, just start off with freeware, such as Windows Movie Maker. That's how I started actually. Unfortunately, the current live version is very gimped and a little too simple. If you can get Movie Maker 2 (the XP version actually), it's actually pretty good, and you can learn basic cutting, transitions, fading, audio, and a few built in effects.

After that, I went straight to Premiere, which was a bit overwhelming, but it's used in industry for a reason. If you want to get into visual effects (as I did), you can then start to get into After Effects and stuff. You'll probably need to learn some basic audio editing as well, so you can get into Audition as well. Then there's Illustrator which can really let your videos come to life when it comes to graphics. Video editing is an endless ride of more and more you can do, so just start off simple and see where it takes you!

I've used movie maker a little bit. It did seem a little limited on features though.

Yes but it is much easier than the other programs, so I highly suggest you master WLMM before you go on to the pro stuff :)

Thanks, I guess I should do a little more work with movie maker so I can make so I can ease into more advance programs.

Yup.

Once you move into premier pro or sony vegas you will need to follow a full tutorial to understand how everything works, youtube is great for this. Good luck :)
