You need to install the LAN drivers for your laptop before you can connect to the internet.

how do i do that 

You look for your laptop on the manufacturers website, the find the drivers in a downloads tab or section.

i try downloading the driver and installing it but it did not work what should i do

Sometime different models of laptops have different network drivers based off of what manufacturing run and revision you got.
