Building my friend a cheap gaming comp, but I still want good parts to go behind it so it lasts long, this is the list so far:

If i buy a 970 am3+ board, i can get one for like 78$ instead of 140$, he doesn't need to Xfire, or any special features, it's just going to be strictly gaming

extreme3 is crap.

But it works very well for the budgetest of the gaming machine.

You mean the asrock one? I was looking at the Asus 970 LE R2.0

The 970 chipset will work fine for his needs. It's mostly for SLI. Though 990FX chipsets have more power phases.

oh god im sry.. i thought you were about to buy an extreme3 for a friend..

Yeah a 970 chipset is perfect for a budget gaming machine. You will need a 990 for any modern Xfire/sli because the 970 will only be able to handle 8x/4x 2.0 speeds.

yea he's just gonna use a 7850 or maybe 7870 probably at max, depending on how much I can shave off the build lol, maybe ill google cardboard computer cases and get him one to save 20$ LOL

Stick to the 990FX boards as it also has a higher hyper transport speed
