I built my system a few months ago with the help from you guys on this forum, at the time the R9 207X was the card to have but i couldn't afford one at the time. I know things have changed in the GPU world and they always will do, but I always found it hard understanding graphics cards even though i did a fair bit of research at the time so i back for some help.

I'm looking to splash a bit of cash on a GPU for Christmas and don't want to spend over £100. I don't do much gaming these days due to family life, so i tend to linger round EVE-online and Diablo 3 if i get a chance, the current Intel GPU does fine but i would like to polish up with the on screen graphics. I also use LR and PS for photo editing but that's about it, i might get into another game in he future but i cant see that happening for a long while.

I have been looking at what was recommended to me months ago a R9 270/ or the X version which were going for £300 at the time now there £70+ which seems a REAL bargain now. My only requirements are......

  • Under £100 - cheaper the better but anywhere between £60-£80 would be ideal (extra brownie points if you find something in this range).
  • Something that doesn't run hot, i doubt it will for what i use it for will happen anyway, but if i does i don't wanna find myself looking on around for a new or extra case fan.
  • Last but not least something that doesn't eat electricity like a kid eats crisps.

Thanks for your help and links to Promo's always appreciated.

R9 270 would be the best; or the cheapest you should go is an R7 260x (the 270 is much better though). Also 750Ti is more efficient, and similar performance to a 260x though.

R9 270 or the cheapest you should go is an R7 260x

Yeah i think the same but i get confused as i seen tons of threads saying something along the lines of this.

ooh don't get the R7 260 X get the 260 reference or the 265 yadda yadda yadda, as it 5% better than this and 20% better than that. More so when brands get involved.

R9 270 >>> R7 260x/GTX750Ti

If you can afford a 270, it's worth the extra money as it's much better price/performance.

So is there much difference between the R9 260/260X/265 and the 270 and the X version?

The 270 is far fest than tha 260/x/265. The 270x is just an overclocked 270.

270x > 270 > 265 > 260x

the 270 is the best bang for the buck since you can just overclock it to 270x speeds.
