1440p IPS or Wait for IPS 4k?

Pretty simple, should I get a 1440p monitor, or should I wait till next year to get a better IPS 4k montior?

 

System specs are in the description. Currently running a 1400x900 Envision montior from 2005. (vomits)

Any recommendations for 1440p? A friend of mine has a Qnix and I think it's pretty nice.

i would say that a 1440p monitor would be best, you could almost fully utilize your system

Yeah, the Qnix is great and really cheap. The Asus PB278Q (which I have) is also great. And of course, if you're made of money, you could get the ROG Swift :P

with 1440p you wouldn't have problems with ui scaling. unless you get a huge 4k screen ofc.

 

I never thought about this actually. How do people define "huge"? I find 28" very pleasant at 4K, but maybe when people talk about UI scaling they're talking 20-24"?

I'll never understand why someone not interested in content creation puts so much importance on a 100% sRGB gamut. The 4K TN panels are, from what I've seen, generally very good. The Asus PB287Q is a very solid monitor, with vibrant and beautiful colour reproduction, if maybe not absolutely 100% faithful to the original.

 

And with respect to the ROG Swift, imo it takes a special kind of person to drop nearly £1000 on a 1440p TN monitor. 144Hz is nice, GSync is nice, but seriously?

 

If anything, gsync would be a welcome addition to 4k about now, so that single 980s or 970s actually aren't terrible solutions, and dual card solutions would *always* be very playable, but it simply cannot come with the horrendous pricetag currently associated with it and gain the traction it deserves as a technology.
