Hello,

I just watched linus's video of how to overclock 4th gen i5 and i7. WHen i tried to overclock windows 8.1 bluescreened at 4.6 ghz and 1.2 volts. Is there any way to solve this or am I just unlucky with the cpu? Also looking for some good stress test programs.

Specs:

ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO, Socket-1150

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866MHz 32GB CL10

Intel Core i7-4770K

Corsair Obsidian 550D Midi Tower Sort

Gainward GeForce GTX 780 6GB PhysX CUDA

Corsair RM1000, 1000W PSU

Also got watercooling from coolermaster.

Hope that someone out there can help me.

Markus

I don't generally jump to a frequency when overclocking. I increase it slowly, applying more voltage as needed. I tend to use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for stress testing.

I never oc'd an i7, but im pretty sure you may need more than 1.2v for 4.6 on that one. But I may be wrong tho, make sure you have the latest bios driver.

Increase it little by little, also with the voltages. you cant just: I WANT 10GHZ AND 100V. No, You need to find the Perfect Balance, every rig is different, find one for yourself.

Thanks for the advice, I got it up to 4.2 now. Linus said in the video that I just start at 4.6, but seems better now.

Lol why do you feel the need to overclock that chip? It's fast enough in stock form and will last longer.

Free performance? seriously an overclocked chip performs much better in applications that need it I increased my vegas render time by 25% by overclocking a tiny bit.
