Hi guys,

had a thread before having sort off the same issue but then I found the actual cause, being a faulty cable. Or at least I thought it to be.

My PC freezes a couple of seconds every now and then in various games causing a "stutter" with a drop to roughly 30 fps. But going from 100 to 30 is quite noticable. We all know that.

So here's the thing I ran out of possibilities though I keep suspecting SLI.

Spec list

I7 4770k OC'd 4,4Ghz

Asus Maximus VI Hero

16GB 1600Mhz Kingston HyperX Blu

EVGA GTX 780 6GB SC ACX in SLI

Corsair  AX860iW

Some HDD's and SSDs

So what have I tried?

Stock settings, CPU on default and well GPU's are kinda hard as they run a default factory OC. -> OC Does appear to be the problem. Dunno what to do as I don't get BSOD's

Update: After digging around a lot more I found it out is the CPU overclock causing this.

Despite that I found the issue I am confused as this overclock has been my 'setting' for over a year now. There's been ofcourse some nice clean ups and stuff like bios updates etc. But as I am a newbie to OC'ing I just use AI Suite 3 for my OC. This worked fine for quite some time till a few weeks ago apparently.

As this only occurs with the OC running, and I am not getting any BSOD's at all. Does anyone have a clue?

Full PC Rebuild to find any visual damage on components. No damage found.

Memtest86 to be sure, 0 errors.

MSI Afterburner and keeping track of what happens with GPU during games. (this is one quite interesting)

Run 1 card at the time and swap the cards.

Test PSU.

Edit: Forgot to mention, no temperature limits are met! CPU get's 50 degrees celcius at max and GPU max 80!

And that is about it.

Results, CPU Passed al tests, no issues found. GPU's both on single card run fine! To be sure I ran them both in a single config on the 2nd slot aswell, no issues there either. With or without OC didn't matter on the issue.

There is one interesting thing though. In SLI the cards seem to 'desync' from time to time, the exact same time I experience a stutter. Example both run at 1110Mhz GPU clock when Card A goes to 968 and Card B sticks to 1110Mhz when noticing this, nothing happens till like 1 second after. Or it's the other way around. I experience a stutter and see in the EVGA/MSI tool a difference in GPU clock. I tried swapping SLI bridges but this didn't change anything.

Soo once again both cards run fine seperately. Both toghether however.. If it were PSU I assume I would have a massive crash. this never happens...

Could this still be SLI bridge?

What games do you get this freezing?

From Battlefield to World of Warcraft to Flying Simulators to Call of Duty to Payday as in pretty much every game.

I get dips in BF4 when there are a lot of physics calcs happening. We have almost identical rigs as well... seems strange, Have you tried them without SLI enabled just to see if you get the drops?

Yes I mentioned that in the OP. Both cards check out when running single and I tested them in the first and 2nd 16x slot.

If you get no dips when in single card config I can only assume its the SLI profile for that game causing the issues. :(

Well that's the thing, knowing the SLI issues that exist I would agree if it were not on pretty much every single game I own. And when it comes down to profiles I just let NVIDIA fly.

Bump.

Anyone who can help me out here since I am a newbie in OC'ing?

Also extra thing, I use the iGPU from the CPU as Intel Quick Sync is awesome for streaming.
