I have just purchased the windows 8 pro disks for a new system, the supplier of the disks has sent me an email since that includes instructions on the install but it includes a .reg file and .batch file which the included instructions ask me to run in order, I just wanted to ask what these files are if anyone knows without seeing them or should I not run them at all

(Noob computer builder, first ever build)

Thanks for any help

Ask your supplier. A usual Windows installation shouldn't need any of those.

if you have an optical drive in your system. you just put the disk in and boot the computer up. it should say "press any key to boot to CD/DVD"

then its step by step from there and its as easy as installing any other program basically

This is what was sent in the instructions word document:

--------------

Instructions for Installation

Follow these instructions for doing a clean/fresh installation i.e. installing on a new PC/Hard Drive with no previous Operating System or on a formatted hard drive.

1. Perform fresh installation of windows 8. To do fresh installation boot the pc with the windows 8 disc inside the pc’s Dvd drive. First boot device must be Dvd drive in the

“Boot device order” or similar setting in your pc’s bios. When the pc starts up with the disc follow the on screen instructions. (Skip this step if you have already done it)

2. After the fresh installation is complete and windows 8 is up and running, download the zipped instructions folder on the Windows 8 desktop and extract files from it.

3. Inside the extracted folder run the ‘FIRST’ by double clicking it, click “Run/Yes/Ok” to all the prompts that come up.

4. Then right click the ‘SECOND’ and click “Run as Administrator”, click “Run/Yes/Ok” to all the prompts that come up.

5. When prompted restart your pc and windows will be automatically activated over the internet.

6. If you want you can delete the instructions folder or keep it saved.

If you have any query or require help, feel free to contact.

------------

The FIRST file is FIRST.reg

And the SECOND file is SECOND.bat

If that can help anyone identify what they may be other than a possible virus/hack
