Hi everyone,

I want to buy Intel core i7 4790K processor and I want to know if I need a cooler for it (or does it come with a stock cooler) because it is already factory overclocked to 4GHz. I used 4770K (with a stock cooler, stock clock speed) and it had no hiccups with the clock speed and overheating, I'm just wondering if 4790 is 3.6GHZ and it comes with a stock cooler (if I get this one I'd turbo boost it to 4GHz), and 4790K is @ 4GHz and also comes with a stock cooler (also has a turbo boost, so the clock frequency would be probably the same as 4790 overclocked).

So my question is would 4790K (stock speed, no turbo boost) be still cool with stock cooler, and would 4790 (stock speed, turbo boosted) be cool with a stock cooler?

Thanks in advance!

Stock cooler is included, and capable of keeping it under the throttling temp in MOST cases (unless you live in a hot desert)

Still Id recommend a better CPU cooler with that CPU (for reducing load temps)

The stock cooler will be fine though, even with Turbo enabled.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Regardless if it comes with a cooler or not(I imagine it does), I recommend picking one up anyways. A Hyper 212 EVO will do you just fine.

The stock cooler will work just fine, but even a cheap aftermarket cooler will keep your cpu cooler, quieter, for longer.

The retail version comes with a fan. OEM doesn't. And technically speaking, it isn't overclocked out of the box. It just has a higher base and turbo clock.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll stick with the stock cooler, and in near future upgrade to H100i and overclock it!
