FX-6300 if you want to jump to the AMD ship.

I'd just go G3258 with a H87 / B85 / Z97 motherboard, anyone that fits your budget.

I'd look at dual core i3 with HT. You may find the two extra logical cores may help out in CPU bound applications. I have done no research but seen a couple of people on here having trouble with the G3258. The only one I can remember was some guy having trouble with Fifa 15.

The athlon 860k is similar to the G3258 But is Quad core and handle more applications at the same time better without loosing performance,

But it has No clear upgrade path,
a FX 4300 have almost the same performance But can be upgraded to a 6300, 8350 or even the 9590.

Maybe this benchmark might help you decide —> http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/699?vs=1265

I'd probably still go Intel, though, because Intel brings newer CPUs to the table more frequently, whereas AMD are kind of trailing along behind by a fair bit. ;)

Not too sure. No clue about overclocking on the i3 series. Again I have done no research on them. Have a look around google.
