Nerd Day

So on Halloween my school held a school pride day. Apparently we're doing one the last Friday of every month. October was Nerd Day. Now I self identify as a nerd/geek, and what people dressed up like was the stereotypical 20th century nerd. I feel this is offensive, as it perpetuates negative nerd stereotypes, pants all the up, hair parted in the center, taped glasses, pocket protector. You know, what everyone thinks of when they hear the word, nerd. I just want your opinions on how you feel about this. It's not like we have preppy day, or jock day or anything else. Just nerd day, otherwise I'd be fine with it. Just kinda pisses me off. What do you guys think?

No one is trying to offend anyone specifically. It is just meant to be a fun day, maybe a distraction from the stress of school. It shouldn't be taken very seriously. Also if you want to dress up as a geek or nerd you either have to dress like that or wear a bunch of gaming shirts or something along those lines. I personally am not offended at all by it. But to each their own.

Everyone at my school wore these stupid glasses that were stolen from the theater and wearing converse (come on, nerds wear shiny pink nikes!) and collared shirts/tie (so every business man is a nerd?!) and talking with a lisp (havent heard one nerd with one before!) 

Me: what are you?

them: a nerd duh!!

Me: nah, thats just stoopid

Them: You're stupid!

Me: *facepalm*

I think you are just reading a little bit too deeply into it. My school had a dress up day for homecoming called "Mathlete vs Athlete"; being from a somewhat rural area in northern Wisconsin, nearly everyone was a huge football or basketball fan and very few "nerds". However on this particular day it was interesting to see everything reversed. In general the more nerdy people dressed as Athletes, with headbands and basketball shorts and whatnot. Then the more athletic kids were usually dressed as nerdy kids. They weren't offended by us looking like mindless jocks, and I never minded them with the taped glasses. You just have to be more relaxed about these types of things because even when it feels like everyone is picking on you, I can tell you that there are other kids somewhere that feel the exact opposite way.

They showed that video and again pissed me off. That video isn't what geeks or nerds are. I don't know anymore, I kinda give up.

Well the thing is I go to a very small school (Around 100 kids) and this school is supposed to be unlike the traditional high school where there are cliques and stuff. So we're told not to define ourselves into one group, yet they say for one day dress just like this.
