No. SLI/Crossfire doesn't work beyond 4 cards. Besides, the scaling would be awful.

I have a dual xeon with four gtx 980 with 64 gb ddr4 ram monster. But is it possible to buy three more gtx 980 for gaming since even the gtx 980 struggles with my three 4k displays. My motherboard is the hptx sr2

No and 4 graphics cards for a gaming setup is too much you will not see an advantage over 3 cards.  checkout the video below.

I agree with 4 gpu's being too much altough some games will benefit at high resolutions.

Fine tripnator just stop being a troll. I have to use xeon on my sr2. It only allows xeon 5500 & 5600 chipset

How would you even fit 7 980s on that motherboard? The smallest they get is dual slot. With dual slots, the board supports 4, which is what you have.
