I am buying my new PC later this week, and I was wondering what would be the "best" ips monitor for my needs; content creation (mini-documentarys with Premiere), light gaming, gyclee printing, and fine art editing.  I don't need 4k, but having a resolution higher than 1080p would be nice for future upgrading.  24"-30" is ideal, as I may buy another later.  $400-$600CAD for the monitor itself.  I don't need an Acer or Asus, a Korean brand would be fine.

Thanks

And PB278Q is WQHD (1440p) not 4k

Yeah, see, that's why I wasn't sure. I think he's getting his wires crossed, so to speak. Kinda made me a tad confused.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am buying my new computer soon, and I was wondering which 1440/4k would be best suited for my uses.

Well, you'll wanna stick with IPS displays for your kind of work. So if you wanted to go for a 4K display I'd advise you to get an IPS panel equipped 4K display as you want good constant colour accuracy. Most, if not all, of the cheaper 4K monitors use TN panels and I'd advise against them for what you're doing.

Sorry, I probably sound like a broken record, I'm just trying to reiterate how important it is

that you get an IPS type monitor, whether it be IPS, PLS or AHVA, for your kind of work. ;):)

I know why I need an IPS, and I was never intending to purchase a TN panel.  Do you have any suggestions?

I know. I'm just getting in before people start convincing you that you need a cheap TN panel based 4K

display for your work. Not trying to make you look like an idiot or anything. That's not my intention. :)

Do you have any suggestions?

Well, the ASUS PA279Q is a great option. It comes pre-calibrated. I'll try to think of some more for you. :)

I know to never buy a TN panel, unless it is for gaming and gaming only.  The colour accuracy is very poor, although they are cheap(er).

I have a Spyder 4 Elite calibrator, so paying extra for a pre-calibrated monitor is unnecessary for me.

Well I'm super glad you know because some people don't. So great! :)

Ah okay. Fair enough.

Hey about that Spyder 4 Elite Calibrator, have you used it yet, how're you finding?

Some say that it's not all that great and tests have been shown that, once a monitor has been calibrated with, compared to the i1Display Pro, that it produces kinda reddish greys instead of the usual neutral greys. I've actually been deciding between the i1Display Pro and the Spyder 4 Elite. It'd be good to know of your experiences with the Spyder 4 Elite. Also, I've heard that the software that comes with it isn't that great. Sorry, it's hard to come across people on this forum with hardware colour calibrators.

We use the S4E for calibrating our monitors, which are used for editing fine art.  It was recommended to us by our art scanner, he uses it and likes it.  When we calibrated the monitor on a notebook we have, the colours were all off and looked horrible.  The software can be difficult to use, as it locks you into calibrating once you start.  The Spyder 4 Elite is expensive, but the i1Display Pro appears to a little bit more.  It depends on your uses, we were going to buy the Spyder 4 Pro as it was cheaper.  We chose to get the better model for it's multi-monitor capibilities.

I am buying my computer today, any suggestions for monitors?

Ah great! Well it sounds like the Spyder 4 Elite does a decent job then. Good to know. :)

Well, do you prefer 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio monitors?

Doesn't matter, whichever on fits into the price bracket better.

Yeah, of course. TFT Central use the i1Display Pro for there monitor reviews and testing. I think some more research is in order. :)
