  1. Thanks for the information, I was thinking of going that way anyways, although I tried to do it with the 1tb harddrive but that didn't work so well. I'll give it another try.
  2. Several years ago I got a great deal on a 60gb ssd, which has worked well as a boot drive in a office machine. Space was always short, so most things were stored on a 1tb drive...things were good. Now I have an extra 250gb ssd laying around and I want to use it in a raid set-up or other combining system with the 60gb drive to combine and share space. In order to do this, will I need to completely reset windows and reload my programs from a backup? The user of the computer is not savvy at all, so telling them to save files off of C: drive doesn't work, or hasn't so far. Because of this I think the best option is a raid 0, but if there are other options please advise.
  3. I did see that, and it has pretty much everything that I need, though I feel like I don;t need the sleek form factor. It doesn't matter what it looks like, just to be basic with a good display. But yes, for $50 that is good.
  4. I'm looking for a reasonably priced budget laptop that will be almost used exclusively for editing photos. The internal specs aren't the most important, 7th and 8th gen i5s and i7s edit photos just fine with 8gb of ram. I've found several options in this price point, but I'm not sure on the quality of their displays. If this will be a complete deal breaker I can use one of my high colour accuracy monitors, but I'd prefer to have a portable option. Battery life isn't crucial either, though I really don't need a discrete card, this isn't meant for gaming. The reason I want a laptop instead of a desktop, it will be used as a portable POS terminal when we visit trade shows. https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/hp-14-laptop-natural-silver-ash-silver-intel-core-i5-8250u-256gb-ssd-8gb-ram-windows-10-only-at-best-buy/12620842.aspx? https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=sr_nr_p_36_0?rnid=12035759011&rh=n%3A667823011%2Cn%3A!677211011%2Cn%3A2404990011%2Cn%3A677252011%2Cp_36%3A75000-100000%2Cp_n_feature_fourteen_browse-bin%3A7322419011%2Cp_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A7326866011%2Cp_n_operating_system_browse-bin%3A14083352011&sort=review-rank&qid=1534578954&bbn=677252011&low-price=600&high-price=850
  5. You're absolutely correct, the lifespan of most mining cards is pretty short, most miners rely on the resale value to recoup their money. I am surprised nobody mentioned this before.
  6. The fuji lens range is actually quite amazing, I don't think they really produce a clear lemon like nikon or canon, even the kit lenses are nice, except maybe the 16-50, which I've heard doesn't live up to the quality of the rest of the range. That does make the system more expensive though, and you certainly have a point that on a budget someone who wants to have a good variety of lenses shouldn't really choose fuji-nikon and canon have more budget options. I am not bashing the entry level dslr, I know semi-professionals who use them, sometimes as back-ups and sometimes as mains, they absolutely serve a purpose. What I was talking about are the people that think you need an expensive camera or dslr to take good photos, when they will never expand their lens range or try practicing with their cameras. And of course there is a camera for every need, some people like having a heavy bulky camera with presence, others like more compact. Even the X100f is hard to recommend for me, seeing as it was made as the true "photographer's" camera, not as a entry level. OP abandoned the thread, OT is about all it was for a while. Speaking of that, why are there so many people who register an account, as a question, then never follow up? I have seen that a few times since recently.
  7. Thanks for the tip, I looked closer and it seems like the focus was off. I think that it could be from the direction of the light and really not understanding how to use the camera. Not an excuse, but a probable explanation. For your photo, the colours and lighting are really nice. I am not sure on the composition, I think maybe a closer crop would have worked better, the details could be easier to see. I also noticed that the focus seemed like it is on the closet petal, which makes the middle seem out of focus. I think focus stacking in this instance would make sense. I can't give a /10, simply because I don't know much about macro and I don't want to seem ignorant. From my first time using the X-T1 in the abandoned town of Prypiat in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. I think that this is one of the most photographed spots, but I don't really care as there is such a cool atmosphere. Visiting was a truly amazing experience, and I would recommend going before the buildings become completely closed and the site is too overrun with tourists. Not dangerous at all (relatively), and you can meet really friendly dogs who love tourists (or more specifically, the guides). F4.6, 1/60, ISO 500, 18mm Prypiat
  8. I didn't know exactly how the XT-100 has the dials set up, though even having the non dedicated seems better than the one scroll wheel on entry-level nikons. The always ready and battery are things that I really miss about my D750, though for me the smaller size and weight now is more important for me. Also because I don't shoot professionally, I don't need my expensive full frame and lenses. For my uses, and I imagine also for the majority of people, a more compact system is more versatile. I agree completely, cheap point and shoots are also pointless, as most modern phones take better photos. I was talking about $300-$1000 "point and shoots," that are more compact and have many (absolutely not all) of the same features of a similarly priced DSLR.
  9. It sounds like you could keep everything but your motherboard, case and probably power supply. Find a new motherboard and use your existing cpu, still a viable option for gaming,
  10. The question really should be why is the low-tier dslr market so popular when most people will never go out of auto mode, change the lens, or actually need any of the features. Most point and shoots for around the same price are more compact, lighter, and are more versatile, not to mention less daunting to learn on. I see so many travelers with the low end dlsrs, more than those with point and shoots, and it frustrates me every time-kit lens, and auto-mode. In your case the XT-100 is the superior option, and yes the battery lasts not as long, however with some cheap aftermarket options it is almost negligible. I recently tried out (almost) the entire Fujifilm lineup, and bought the XT-1, and I really like how easy it is to shoot in full manual with the dedicated dials.
  11. A6500 as far as i know is certainly made more for video, the A6300 was released at similar time but lacks the in-camera stabilization. If you are shooting while moving I would go for the A6500, also because the battery on the A7 really isn't very good. If you can get the A7 ii used that would be worth it.
  12. I like the photo, though sometimes (and often) editing is necessary to make corrections. I like IR photography in general, though in this case the eyes of the children look completely black, which might fit for a horror, but I doubt that is what you are going for. Focus seems tack sharp and composition is interesting. I need critique, especially on colour (but really on any aspect), something I struggle with. I want to get better and try to take more/less travel photos that reflect my journey more than just the top sights and attractions. If you have any advice on this I am surely open to it. From an evening hike in Rakhiv, in Ukraine's southern Carpathian mountain range. The photo I wanted I realized after that the focus was completely off, so this will have to be sufficient. Rakhiv
  13. What type of photography do you mostly shoot? D810 is more than enough, I would recommend getting some more glass.
  14. If you're spending money that you don't have, then maybe stop, but if you enjoy what you are getting no need for a psychologist.
  15. No what he is saying that if you want to find a copy of windows somewhere else, you can save the $100 and spend it on a better CPU. Dual cores are really not good for gaming, they work but most games are recommending quad cores now. Reddit is a good place to start for windows.
