Why?

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

Why do Thermal Paste makers use a huge tube and only fill it less than a quarter the way?

Just received my Arctic MX-2 for my laptop.

Just an odd thing i needed to ask.

Its cheaper to only manufacture only one type of tube and fill it with different amounts

Makes sense, though it is a total waste of plastic, thanks.

Its a waste but plastic costs fuck all, its more expensive to create a whole second assembly line just for smaller tubes

Well you can squeeze a low viscosity fluid from pretty much any bag/container (aka water) but now use a super high viscous fluid (aka Thermal Paste) from a tiny syringe. Using a weak walled syringe will cause it to burst same for any other container that's weak, since you want to apply it in a very specific spot you use a syringe so you can direct it and control its application. If you were to use a lets say tin foil package where you cut a corner and dump it out you would end up getting messy or on you so you'd end up wasting much more of it than using it for thermal application, then how would you re-seal it if you didn't use it all?

They use a huge tube that's not fully filled to prevent the syringe plunger from breaking in half or needing to use a metal plunger to actually push the thick thermal paste out.

Next time you think about containers and containers used for application, think about what it is you're applying and its physical properties before making generalizations about its container. If you think there's a better way then create it and quit whining about how things are bad, whining only raises the noise, solutions make things better.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

Well fuck me sideways, which bonfire did you sit on?

A bit harsh considering i asked a simple question politely.

Where was I rude? If you re read your original post it actually reads as a total bashing of the thermal paste companies as if they never thought about their product, whereas if they sent you their thermal paste in a paper envelope you'd also bash them for not securing it in a proper container. So make up your mind, you want a product delivered in a proper container or would prefer they send it in what ever is handy that does not lead you to think they're making a huge waste?

Either way you'd be whining, the current thick plastic syringe containers are the best for holding, delivering and dispensing thermal paste. No other viable solution is out there so don't you think you're barking up the wrong tree?

Once a whiner always a whiner, maybe you learn to solve and not just sit and whine in that time.
