Does micro stuttering still exist in Crossfire?

I've been thinking about changing to crossfire 290x, but the thing stopping me is micro stuttering. Does the issue still exist? And if it does, how bad is it?

Also, another question, 290x or 980?

crossfire hasn't had much micro-stuttering in a good while. in fact, its considered slightly smoother (on frame time bench graphs) than SLI ever since AMD got their framepacing down.
